Driver Air Bag Recall
Driver Air Bag Recall
Got a recall from Ford about my ''new to me'' 07 Ranger. They want to replace the driver side airbag. Sure thing, Call me when you have a free loaner. Too many stories about dropping off at the dealer. ''Hello sir. The rear main seal is leaking. Needs tending to."
No thanks MR Dealer. l think l will take my chances with my old airbag.. After 15 yrs l cant imagine an ltem being discovered BAD

That's because they don't go "bad" until they are activated in a crash. The "bad" is that whatever propellant activates the airbag inflator is sensitive to humid environments, and it tends to become more powerful in those environments, causing the airbag parts to basically explode when activated. In other words, shrapnel in your face and arms.
It's your choice but be educated before you make that choice.

Thanks for the reply. l read a bit more on this recall after posting. lt seems FORD fought this recall due to a design change in these later bags. Ford says the driver side bags are perfectly safe because demoisturizing chemical was added to the driver side bags.
Ford's general stance is to fight recalls, no matter how many people die or are injured. lol.
They also don't have the greatest track record with airbags. Their first gen versions were also prone to injure, and my own father was burned by the one in his 1995 F150.
