Icon5 Gem module location on 2007????

HI!... O.k, I right in the middle of doing the wring on my EXPLORER overhead console. The detailed instructions say that the GEM module is behind the radio bezel, and is on the left hand side. My 2007 Ranger has no GEM module at all in this location. Does anyone know where FORD moved it to on the 2007 RANGER, before I start ripping my whole dash apart looking for it?

O.k I found this bit of info :

*****Speed Sensor Input (Explorer Gray/Black at console)-
2003-back Ranger: Gray/Black at GEM
2004-on Ranger: Gray/Black at Smart Junction Box (brown connector)*****

What is this Smart Junction Box (brown connector) and where is it located at on the 2007 Ranger????

Thanks :

Neal N.

HI!... I think I figured it out. I was told that the interior fuse panel/GEM module are all in one now. This I figure is the BROWN connector they are talking about in the instructions.

Can anyone confirm this????????

1995~2003
The gray/black VSS wire is available at the Generic Electronic Module, instrument cluster, speed control servo, etc.

2004~2006
There is no longer a GEM or Central Security Module or DRL Module in Rangers after 2003. The functions of those 3 modules (and the interior fuse panel) were incorporated into the Smart Junction Box that is shown in your pictures.

The note about the gray/black in the brown SJB connector was written a few years ago and applies to 2004. Although it exists elsewhere in the interior, the gray/black to the SJB was eliminated for 2005 and 2006.

2007+
The Ranger electrical system received a major rework in 2007 and many color codes changed. The VSS wire is now violet/orange and runs from the #1 pin of one of the PowerPC PCM connectors to the speed control servo. The only place to tap into it is under the hood.

I!... COOL! Thanks!!!!!!!!!![:^^] I really appreciate the help. I think someone needs to do a new right up for the newer trucks. lol! So this doesn't happen again like it did for me.

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S : You wouldn't happen to know why, when I use my dimmer switch the digital display on the EXPLORER over head console flashes really fast? It's fine when you have the dimmer switch at full brightness, but as soon as you take it off full it makes the display flash?

I think the dimmer switch changes the voltage to the dash lights and the OHC requires full 12 volts. thats probably why it flashes when you dim the dash lamps...
