explorer seat fitment question...

ok, will a pair of explorer limited leather seats fit in my Ranger? (01 Extended cab 4-door) If so, is it just a plug and play seat swap or am I going to need to mod something?

One more question...since they're power seats, will I be able to hook them up or is a total PITA? I could give a crap about the memory function. But I'd like to be able to get them moving around if possible. Any help is appreciate guys. Thanks.

First, what year explorer? I know 91-01 will fit in an extended cab ranger as I have a 97 and had seats from a 98 or 99 Explorer. The newer explorer seats are a little wider i believe. You may also run into problems w/ your seatbelts as I think in 2001 the ranger belts went to a smaller male end connector...

I'm sure someone else will shed some light...

In a 2001 Ranger, you will have airbag light codes 46 and 47 because the Explorer seats probably won't have seat belt pretensioners.

Wiring for power functions is not bad because the motors and switches are all self contained with the seats. That means that you just need to run a new power circuit and ground wire. IIRC, the stock Ex circuit is 25A or 30A, so you would need to run a new wire from the battery or, better yet, the distribution box. That's a lot of potential current so you would have to use heavier wire (12 gauge?). Be sure to use proper fuse protection near the source.

So in 2001 and on you don't have the seatbelt pretensioner? Is there a way to get it from the old seat and into the explorer seats?

I also have a question to add to this guys, i have a 98 ranger single cab and i'm looking upgrade the seats to the explorer seats. Now i don't really care much about the condition of the seats because i am getting them custom upholstered with new leather and sueade. What is a good year range to look at getting some to put in the cab. Thanks

Other members who have tried to put explorer seats in single cab ranger's say they don't fit too well. They sit a little higher in the cab and can not be reclined to where you will sit comfortable in the seat. I would say that you might need to mod the rails a little to get it to fit right. Here's what can fit in rangers that will bolt right in.

Explorer 98-01 4door and 2 door
Explorer 02+ Sport 2 door or Sport Trac

Explorer 02+ 4 door use different rails and the bolt pattern is very different

I just did this on my ranger today. I have an 2002 XLT. You will need to wire the explorer seat and you will need to swap seatbelts over and for some reason on my seat I needed to drill a bigger hole on the front right mounting tab on the exp seat to except the rangers bolt.

Do you have some pictures you could post? I'd like to check out the final result.

I will when I finish it. I only have the drivers seat on there now. I work basically in the same building as a junk yard so when my stock ranger seat decided to break I just pulled the drivers seat out of the explorer when I was working on Saturday. I'm gonna get the passenger seat and console this week.
