Foot well lighting?

I did this on my STi for the front and rear footwells using 12" of led strip lighting from v-leds.com. When I unlock the car they come on and then fade out with the rest of my dome light.. I wired them so that I can have it come on with dome, off, or constant on.

Question is how would I do that with a ranger that does not have power door locks or an alarm? Can I tie it to the dome light from the top of the roof and run the wires down or is there a better closer way via the ECU..etc?

Thanks,
-Nigel

well I know for a fact that you can wire lights to the dome light (havent done it but seen it done on here)

why not wire it like you would any other accessory lighting. With a relay and switch and have two hot wires.. 1 so you can turn it on manually and 2 so you can have them activate when dome light is on.

i spliced into the dome light wire by the fuse panel in the passenger foot well

Shocker whats the deal man? New truck, truck totaled, looking at dome lights, now looking for footwell lighting?

I'm so lost, enlighten me. I'd love to know what you're working on.

I have my footwell led's tied into my mustang dome light switches.
Also have my step led's connect to my mustang dome light so they come on when I unlock the doors, open the doors or roll up the dimmer switch.

I would at a minimum attach the wiring to the overhead lights.
Optional would be a manual override switch for those times you happen to drop something :439:.

Make sure to use the LEDs you mentioned to keep the current draw as low as possible.

shocker that new ride is way nicer than your last one!! congrats!

i wired in bed lights to my dome circut. i did not have any luck finding the dome light wire at the fuse panel so on my 2007, i followed the wire down from the light, towards the rear drivers side, then down the drivers side cab, across under the seat...

i tapped it behind the drivers seat and just ran the power to the AUX lights from there. same would work for you. If you want manual on, then just roll the dimmer switch all the way up.

My bed lights will be connected to a separate switch but the footwell lights would be attached to the dome light with override for just the foot well.

I have my underdash lights wired up to my parking lights. They come on whenever I turn the parking lights on with the stock light switch. I also wired in a non-lit push-on/push-off switch and mounted in discretely in the center console so I can turn them off separately if I need too. I wish I could get to my Ranger to take pictures of how I did it, but I'm stuck in Afghanistan for the time being. I'll post what picture I do have in a bit. I should be home in the next few months. I'll have to do a How-To when I can finally get back to my truck (although you'll hopefully have this all figured out by then, lol)
