Gauge Pod?
 

I was thinking of putting a double gauge pod in my truck for looks on my driver side pillar. what would be the easiest gauges to run and get to work correctly. I dont have a turbo so no boost

oil pressure water temp tranny temp clock

oil pressure is a PITA to run a sneder though...

water temp isn't as bad, it's more of an open area

tranny temp is too easy...

if your just doing it for looks. well i recommened Trans temp if auto and water temp. but there not the easiest to hook up. if you want easy ass gauges run Volts (all you do is hook up a wire...) and Vacumm its just T-ing in to a vacuume line thats all thats needed to do. and it moves around alot so gives you something to look at....

i have this set up, the Volts i needed for my lights. i also have Water temp which i was gonna use but i was running out of time to get this installed and just threw in my Vac that i had laying around lol...

volts and tranny temp if you have an auto.

water is a pain and so is oil pressure.

oil is a pita, but to me it is VERY worth it. I do once a year oil changes ;)

Not really, I just like to moniter my engine really closely.

do they come with every thing to hook up or do you have to buy extra set up with the guages?

Most quality gauges come with everything you need. I know AutoMeter gauges do. You might need a few small pipe fittings for an oil pressure sender, but that depends on how the stock unit is mounted. But other than that and some wire, you're straight.

Is there any brand of gauges to stay away from?

for ease of installation you want an electronic gauge. I think past that any would be fine.

I would think just about any gauge that's not a "$4.99 special" would suffice.

People have certain preference/opinions about electric vs mechanical gauges. Personally, I prefer mechanical gauges, BUT I wasn't in the mood to take a chance running a plastic tube with hot oil in it up & through my A-Pillar. So I went with electric for the "safety" factor. I installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge also (just mounted it below my dash) for a few weeks just to check the accuracy of the electric unit. To my suprise the electric gauge read only about 5 psi lower than the mechanical. Once I had a good reference point, I took out the mechanical gauge.

ok sounds like I am going to go with the electric gauges to be safe.
