cluster removal and odometer setting

I am going to get my white faced cluster from the JY tomorrow and want to install it in my truck asap.

How do I get the cluster out?

Next, How do I move the mileage on the odometer ahead to match my current mileage on my stock one? The new one has 58,xxx and my stocker has 61,xxx


Any pics would be greatly appreciated?

and ill add, i dont wanna take the needles off to adjust the mileage!

here they are just revived



you 1st have to take the left and right gauges out easily done by prying them up

then the center unit

1st i marked the needle position and used a spoon to remove the speed needle turn it over and remove the 3 screws holding it to the face

now i did not get a good picture but once you have the assy out un plug the moter/worm gear assembly NOW YOU HAVE TO BE CARFULL the motor is held in place by two plastic **** you must turn the motor assy out with out breaking them and this is what you end up with

now you can turn the millage with no problem i used a drill because my milage was so off

you can also use the speedo assy out of you old unit

your going to have to remove the needle just mark it

how hard is it to get the cluster out of the truck and what tools do i need?

go to this website i worked great for me and its really easy to take the dash apart http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...&threadid=46290 even though its for an explorer it was no different on my 98 ranger

do I hafta take the lower dash panel off to do this? like the knee board?

as soon as you pull the needle off the speedo wont the speedo be off because the needle holds pressure on the gauge?

yep. You have to do some tricky stuff to get it back. I do a lot of driving in my truck and I know when I'm doing 90km/h...more like feel it. It's where the truck just coasts along. I reinstalled the gauge cluster without the plastic cover, got the truck up to 90km/h and pushed the needle on.

At first I had by brother drive ahead of me to do 40km/h and I followed him then put the needle on. We then did speed checks of 40 - 60 - 80, but it was still off a bit. So I did it myself at 90 and it's spot on now.

i would like to get some explorer gauges for my truck, but it would be more difficult to put them in mine......and the idiot lights wont line up.....

ooo welll i have WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too many projects going now anyways...
