painting silver rings on 04 + cluster

Hey Yall,

I have an extra 2004 cluster and I want to paint the black rings around the guages silver like the FX4 Level II cluster and the STX cluster.
Is there anyone here that has ever done this before? If so, what kind of paint did you use?
(I might have someone do this for me, so if you're pretty skilled at painting send me a PM.)

Thanks,

Brian

PS Please post some pics if you have any.

yep i have done it as well. although i sold the one i painted and kept the actual fx4 silver rings on my truck.

I just used the silver duplicolor paint that matches my paint code. i had some lying around.

just taped it all off (this took the longest) then sanded everything down and painted then cleared. which probably wasn't necessary. but i did it anyways. lol

Yeah, I remember you painting yours, and you did a great job on it.
Does the Duplicolor come in cans or is it just the touch up paint?
I rememember you also used something to prep the rings so the paint would adhere to the surface better. What is that stuff called?

Btw ... The guy that bought your whole cluster, was he able to use it in his truck? I wasn't able to sell mine on here because a lot of people said the 04 + cluster won't work in another Ranger.

I did the same a couple of years ago. Taped everything up and sprayed with DupliColor silver.
Looks great.

What's that stuff called that you use so the paint will adhere to plastic surfaces better?

Adhesion promoter. Should be near the specialty paints. (Paint for plastics, fabric/vinyl, and wheel paints.)

yep adhesion promoter. and im not sure if he was able to use it or not. i think he was modding the cluster if i remember correctly. LED's and what not.

you can run it in a different ranger but i believe you need to have it flashed at a dealership or some **** like that.

Looks good. I see a little paint below the RPM ring you might want to clean off.

Thanks ...
yeah, I noticed the little bit of paint under the RPM gauge. It'll clean right off with some acetone.

Now I need to figure out a way to paint the round part of the needles silver.

(How hard it it to remove the needles?)

Wirelessly posted (Android)

Super easy to get the needles off. Rotate clockwise while pulling. They will spin off. I just painted my needles today.
