how can i paint this?
how can i paint this?
i'm thinkin about painting my radio bezel with spray paint, i guess Krylon fusion is the stuff to get, but i dont know how to go about doing something...
the parts in yellow are the ones that i DONT want painted, so i can still see the lights and etc...i guess i'm weird....but how do i paint the bezel and not the parts circled?

i'm not sure about the 4x4 switch. but the foglight button can be easily taken out. It's screwed in on a bracket (just one screw). so.. good luck on that.
if all else fails on the 4x4 switch... tape it over with a bunch of tape, or cover it up, and brush that part. Good luck!
can't wait to see!

It ALL can come out. The 4x4 selector thingy that says what gear you are in are simply 4 push-pin type things. Look on the back of the bezel and you will see. Looks like Ford pushed them on there and then melted the ends of the rods to secure it in space, but I took mine off and it went back on with absolutely NO problems.
As for the button, it'll come out once you take it out. 2 screws and the whole assembly comes off.

Ok if ur affraid that ur goin to mess it up then do like me and go and get a junkyard one and paint it then u dont have to worry about messing the stock one up. now for the 4x4 indecator thing i just taped it off and it wasnt that hard. now my ? is how u take the cover for the 12 volt outlet off? and one thing i dont know if u know but u and take a knife or screw driver and pop the little i geuss u could call it a lens but u can pop that out when u paint the 4x4 switch thats how i did all my switches.

sorry i will try to get a better pick of the switches apart

I wonder if a heat gun and a plastic scraper would work better to take off the rubber
this way you will not deform the bezel with any spot over sanding
just a light sanding or even a just scuffing up the bezel with a 3M pad would be enough to have the Krylon stick well after you get the rubber off

Would the heat gun create to much heat and deform the plastic if held on one area too long though? I think I remember reading that it was either nail polish remover or paint thinner that would take the stuff off with out hurting the plastic behind it.
yeah my bezel doesnt have the rubber...its just hard black plastic...i got armor all on it in the pic, sorry....
so i'll have to sand it down u say? could i just spray a few coats of primer first? i'm lazy...haha:D

if you have the armor all on it I would use some plastic safe solvent before you even sand or scuff it up
the armor all will hurt the paint adhesive properties
you need to get all that off before you even start
just remove the bezel and soak it in some degreaser like fantasitic or formula 409 - that should not hurt the plastic one bit

I say use the white Krylon Fusion (im pretty sure they have it). When I painted mine I just washed it off with some soapy water, dried it well, then started painting. I use pleanty of light coats and eventually it will come out good and smoth and shiny. Make sure to NOT rush each spray, just use light coats. Also make sure to allow pleanty of time to dry, because you can mess things up if you dont give it enough time to dry.
Good luck man hope to see it when its done.
