How do you remove the stock console?!

I have a 00 Ranger with the stock console but the thing is so jammed under the dash I can't use it properly. I mounted my XM Radio over the airbag switch so now I don't have any place to put my large drink. ;) I'd like to know if it's possible to remove the console and remount it closer to the seats. I have an automatic so there's plenty of room. I could barely reach my drink as it was!

Huh your floor console. There are screws in the middle of the cup holders .

Mine has these funny looking covers over what I would have assumed were the screw holes. I'm not sure how to get those covers off. It also feels like it's attached in one other spot and I don't want to break it. Can you elaborate a bit? Thanks for the reply. I've wanted to do this for awhile now.

remover the covering in the bottom of the cup holders, if you have 'em itll be a flat piece of rubber. You will see two weird looking plastic clips in the cup holders, one on each side. plase a large flathead screwdriver in the slots and turn them to the left, they only go bout a quarter or half turn. You should feel it loosen up, then just pull up till it lifts free then pull it towards you

pics of which console thing youve got would help tremendously.

It's just the stock cup holder. Here is what the center piece looks like. I've got it turned 1/4 turn (or as far over as it will go) to the left but it still won't lift out. I've tried prying on it with the screwdriver and pulling it straight out with a pair of needle-nosed plyers until it felt like it was going to break. No dice.

I've got a pic of it but my internet is messed up (I hate Comcast!) so I can't get it to Imageshack or Tinypic. Still trying...

I'm unfamiliar with any cup holder on the floor that isnt a manual transmission...

the manuals have two phillips screws that are vertically and hidden under a fold on the shift boot. un screw those and it just kinda lifts out.

under BOTH cup holders you turn those locks to the left and they stop then lift up to get the locks of the slot then it SLIDES TOWARDS the BACK of the vehicle or towards you if your looking at it..

if your talking about this one:

You have no idea how happy you've made me. :D I just need to cut two small holes in the carpet and drill 4 pilot holes. I can FINALLY use my cup holders! Thanks for the help, gang.
