Interior Leaking
 

I've noticed that on some occasions I'll go to get into my truck and the windows will have condensation on them ( is a real pain during the winter when the condensation turns to ice ) Also, the floorboards on the drivers and passengers side is wet. The seats and dash are dry as a bone, even the upper sides of the floorboards are dry.

What could be causing this leaking ? I wouldn't think the windows or weather stripping would be bad, the truck is only 4 years old.

I also had this same problem with a 99 Mercury Cougar, which no one was ever able to tell me what was wrong with it.

Has this happend to anyone else ? Any Ideas as to what it could be ?

my guess is the 3rd brake light.

do a search about it.

You can probably thank the frame-less door windows for that one.

The third brake light will leak on mine in a hard rain. I have tried to seal it up but...nothing seems to work. Anybody got any suggestions?

I don't think it could be the 3rd brake light, I mean behind the seats and the carpet behind the seats are dry.

Usually, I'll go to get in and all that's wet are the drivers and passengers side floors, just the bottom and they'll sometimes have standing water. I would think that since the truck is only 5 years old, It couldn't be the windsheild...

I'm at a loss and the jackasses at my local Ford Dealer said they would charge roughly $600 to find the problem.

I have this same prblm minus the ICE its allways in the back seats on the passenger side i have no idea what is causing it either.

Try checking for plugged drain holes in the bottom of your doors.

Crap like this is why I have my Ranger up for sale.

Yeah I have had a similar problem to this before except my door, window and dash are always dry. It is just my passanger side floor that fills up with water during a hard rain.

Here's an obviously quick way to diagnose the location of the leak.

Does the moisture accumulate when you're driving the truck, or when it sits overnight and gets rained on?

If it's when you're driving it, start checking underneath. There are multiple rubber plugs on the floor of the cab that could be corroded or missing. This would allow water to seep up underneath the carpet and collect, which would eventually rust the floor out.

If it's when the truck has sat for a while (like overnight?), start with the 3rd brake light and then move to upper window seals. The 3rd brake light will actually drip from ceiling to floor, so the back of the seats or the rear wall carpeting may remain dry. I have seen mine drip nearly on my shoulder while sitting in a pressurized car wash!

Check the corners of your front and rear windshields. If water penetrates at this point, it could run down the pillar on the inside of the truck where it would accumulate on the floor without getting other surfaces wet.

A quick fix for the 3rd brake light problem is this:
Remove the two screws holding the housing to the cab. Pull the housing out from the cab but leave the wires connected.
Run a strip of foam "weatherseal" tape along the inside of the brake light, making sure to remove any excess around the edges. Leave a tiny bit protruding from the edge to compress between the edge of the light and the cab when you tighten it back down.

It never leaks when driving, Only when it's been sitting overnight or during the day and rained on..

I actually just bought some weatherstripping from Autozone this morning and put it in, hopefully it'll work. I'll be sure to check back in.

I put in the new weatherstrip and decided that ( for the first time, unfortunatly ) I would go ahead and try giving it the waterhose test...

I didn't notice any leaking coming from the 3rd brake light...

However... I noticed that my whole back window is leaking.

Would the back window leaking lead to having alot of water leaking into the front floorboard(s) ?

Usually I get a huge puddle in the passengers side front and a little bit on the drivers side even though both sides of the window leak, I may be parking at a slant, would that make a diffrence ?

My back leaked, here is what I found:

After a rain, my cup holders in my jack cover would get full of water.

My latch to keep the back sliding window shut leaked, so I unscrewed it (had to pop out a pin holding it in) and filled it with silicone.

DONE!

Nope, now my headliner was getting stained - must be more water....

Undid my 3rd brake light, and took that flexible form-a-seal stuff, put a nice 1/2inch bead around the opening (on the truck part, not on the brake itself),then I pressed the brake light onto it until it oozed out around. Scerewed it in, wiped off the excess, and all is good now.

I also have a leak somewhere under my carpet on the front drievrs side. I even have sand under the carpet. I suspect a gromet missing. Get a nice day I will take out the carpet and place a bright light under the truck after it gets dark so I can hopefully find where the light shines through o plug or patch whatever is happening.

ACE, check your seal on your back window, inside and on the outside..The rubber seal wasnt flush with the cab, it was gapped a little when i bought it....I finnally filled the gap in with silicone and scraped the excess off, it works.....My headliner is stained from when it was leaking, but now no leaks....
