squeaky steering wheel

my steering wheel squeaks when i turn it. i think there is just dust or something in it somewhere but i cant figure out how to get it off. it doesnt sound like its coming from the steering column, but from in the wheel its self. i have this style but mine is an '04.

1) Buy Hanes manual.
2) Read Hanes manual.
3) Remove steering wheel.
4) Clean.
5) Put back together.

*Remember to unplug the negative terminal of your battery unless you want the airbag to take your head off.

I would check the rubber boot on the firewall where the steering shaft goes through.

It could be as simple as some dust behind the steering wheel where it mounts. Try some of that compressed air stuff. I did that with both of my trucks, and all I had to do was use some tool I found in the closet called a "vacuum" afterwards.

Could also just be as simple as the plastic from the back of the steerign wheel rubbing on the plastic on the steering column.

Does it do it all the time or only if the truck has been sitting in the sun? Keep in mind, things expand and contract, you'll get a few noises here and there.

it does it all the time. i took it about half way apart and tried cleaning it and putting some teflon based lube on the spring behind the wheel and it didnt seem to help.

So I have a potential buyer coming to look at my truck tomorrow and I really wan to get this squeak gone. None of the above suggestions worked. It is soming from the steering column but not as far back as the firewall. Any other ideas? The dealer cleaned it for me back when the truck was still fairly new and that fixed the problem but I don't know what they did.
