Lower Seats for head room
Lower Seats for head room
I am looking to buy a nice used 2007 Ford Ranger FX4 Off-Road SuperCab.
My only reservation is that when I test drove it my head was touching and bumping the ceiling. Is there a seat replacement that will lower the seat, thus creating more head room?
I have looked over the forum and it looks like there are several seat replacement options, But I need to find one that will give me at least 2 inches more than the standard split bench seat.
It is kind of a deal breaker for me on this truck.... But it is otherwize SOO nice. Hopefully someone can help me here.
Thanks,
Alfred

Were they power seats?
If not I would see if you can find one to "test drive" that has power seats, and see if they go lower.
If they do then you can get the 2007 and swap to power seats, yes any year Ranger seats can be swapped.
Non-powered seats are usually set for average height or shorter, like pants, lol
You could probably cut and weld for it to be lower, but a swap with another non-powered seat set would probably not change much
Also look here for other seat swaps: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...ry/Seats.shtml
I am tall as well, so it is indeed a deal breaker, nothing worse than having to bend your neck to look at a stop light, or feeling the headliner touching your head.
My 1994 Ranger fits perfect, non-powered seats, but I am only 6'5", I assume you are taller

Actually I am ONLY 6' 2" .... But I like to sit up.
I have started to look around for one with power seats to try. My understanding is that there have been some changes in the mounts over the years and also that there is a difference between the reg and supercab seat mounts.
I have also read that some other seats like mustang and explorer seats will fit with some minor modification.
The thing is that without knowing that it will actually lower the seat and increase headroom I wouldn't want to buy the seats.
Well, or the Truck if it ultimately won't fit me.
I was hoping that someone here would have firsthand knowledge of having done this type of thing..... I can't be the only guy who wanted more headroom in one of these.

You might be right, I just assumed fully loaded Ranger would have power seats and seat warmers.
Good thread here: Howe to add power seat wiring - Ford Ranger Forum
yes Explorer seats seem to be the choice for leather and power
You know how close you are to the headliner in the 2007 Ranger
Find an explorer with power seats at a used car dealer
Put the power seat at same level/height where your head hits the headliner like in the Ranger, then lower the seat all the way and see what the difference is.
