Got some 05 seats for my 99...

Less of a question, and more of a "just sayin... i did this." for those curious about seat swaps.

I've got a 99 ext.cab, the drivers seat was very broken down and i could feel the bar in my back, so i went on a hunt for some newer seats to put in.

Originally found some 02's... these weren't any better than mine.

Then I found a pair of 05's, they were a bit dirty, but the foam+fabric was decent, and the price was right, so i brought em home.

Installation was cake... just unbolt the 4 floor bolts, swap the female end of the seat belts while the seats are out, then bolt the new ones down and plug in the seat belt lead.

I think they are definitely an improvement... not a ton cleaner than my old ones, but they look a lot better, and are much more comfortable.

I've heard some people saying the 04+ seats sit up too high and create a blind spot. I'm not having too much problem with it. I guess they sit a little higher, but my the old seats were worn out.

Picture: It makes my interior feel much newer!

I know what you mean about the seats being uncomfortable! I have an '02 ext cab and found some old Honda buckets for $30! There was alot of work involved trying to mate the chair to the slider rails but it turned out great!

Not bad! I'd remove the covers and wash them.

Yes you can. take them out and then there are plastic clips (sort of things, not a better word for it) and then they slid right off.

The newer seats like the OP has have hog rings. The older seats have the plastic clips that 98liftedranger spoke of.

they all have j-strips that hold the outside edges on. 98-03 use velcro and maybe a couple hog rings, 04+ use just hog rings. there are plastic clips that are used to hold the pulls in the middle of the seats down, but not in rangers. that's more of a Chrysler and GM thing.

What you're calling J-strips are what I was referring to, and I'm sure 98liftedranger was as well. My 2000 seats don't have any hog rings at all. Just those clips on the outsides and velcro on the center of the butt and back portions.

Well, cool. I'm thinking ill end up taking it apart and sound deadening the whole thing at some point, and putting in new carpet, so if/when i do that, ill wash the seat covers while I'm at it.
