Modify stock interior light 2008

I just got a 2008 Super cab XLT that has a single dome light. Does anyone know if it has full time power or just when it is turned on by the dash switch? I would like to get a different style that can be turned on at the unit for a map light effect. Thanks

Ford changed the wiring in 07 so I don't know if this is 100% correct but in 04 Ford changed it from a constant hot to just hot when the door is open or the dash switch is on. You can get a Mustang dome light and run a constant hot to it. You'll have to get a 07 wiring manual though and find the correct wire.

you should be able to turn it on where you dim the lights on your gauges just push it all the way up

Yes, he knows that but he was asking if there was away to turn it on at the light itself, just like the mustang domelight.

The only wire to the dome is the one controlled by the door switches and dimmer module. To add map lights, you would need to run a new hot wire up there.

04+ only has the dimmer wire, no constant hot.

That's a nicely painted dome light. I bought one a while back, took it apart and painted it but then the damn on\off buttons wouldn't go back on correctly.

Did I do something to mess them up? They mount back on but they're loose. The metal contact portion just flaps around and so does the button. It isn't tight like it was before I took it apart. Don't know if what I said makes sense but that's the best explanation I could muster.

BTW, sorry for the thread jack.
