My new CB Radio

Hello everyone I just wanted to show my new Cobra 25 NW LTD Classic and wilson 5000 roof mounted antenna. I finished the install 2 days ago. Comments and criticism welcome. Also I have noticed that not many people on RF have roof mounted antennas I was wondering why as this is the best place to put an antenna?

THe 25 is a great radio... take it to a cb shop or a truckers shop and get it peaked and tuned..

I wouldnt have drilled a hole in the roof....

90% of us dont have roof mounted antennas.. we all have magnetic mounts.... And the other people have fiberglass or steel whips on the rear, via alon's tailgate mount, or to the bumper..

Looks good, just hope you used a flat piece of metal so you dont bend you cab metal everywhere...

I always have to take mine off going into the parking garage or 4 wheeling.. so i havent put it back in...

Good install though!

Rocky

Already Peaked and tuned. And yeah I put some reinforcement in there. The antenna can screw off with a couple turns and has a weather cap that goes over the connector. Takes all of 20 seconds to take on or off. I don't garage mine so it stays on. What is everyone's aversion to drilling holes? If your gonna keep the truck why not. And mounted by the brake light doesn't allow peak performance. Also I offset it on the left so that once I get my Ham setup I can put the ham antenna on the right with adequate distance between antennas.

Also one word of advice for anyone doing a through the roof install. Get some clear RTV silicone and seal the weather gasket to the roof for added measure.

Screw the 'peak and tune'......That baby needs a mosfet!

Those stock cobra mics suck too, they look nice though. Might wanna invest in an Astatic 636L or a Road King RK-56 if you wanna transmit clear without background noise.

Yeah she's gettin a new mic soon. I am not a fan of those either. I am partial to the road kings. Prolly gonna wait on the mic and other stuff till I get the ICOM installed. I had looked at the 29 but don't need the weather option. I wanted to keep it kinda small since the icom I will be installing will probably end up under that. I will however use a fullsize radio as a base station at home though.

I want the V8000 for the forward firing speaker, backlit buttons, and it has a fan for the electronics which is great for under dash mounting. If not that then the 2200H. I may consider a yaesu FT-1802M but I like the ICOMS

Yeah it shouldn't hit anything on the road but even if it does it is spring steel so it will just rebound right back. You can take these antennas and loop em and put em in your suitcase and when you pull them out they are as straight as before. Wilson Antennas are really good antennas I might add. Drive thrus will hit though.

I like mine up on the headliner between the visors. You can tuck the mic cord up in the pass side visor when your not using it.

Oh yeah........It's all about the Yaesu!!!!

Nice antenna. I really couldn't do the headliner mount as I have an OHC up there but they do look nice if they are in an enclosure just gotta make sure they are secure up there or it will become a bullet in a wreck. I also like your taillight guards. What brand are yours?

I know where there are some new Astatics and Turner RK's for sale new, real cheap. I bought a new turner rk56 from the guy last week and couldn't be happier. Saved about $30 on it too =]

I like the CB, but I wouldn't have cut a hole in the roof either and I am planning on keeping my truck forever.

It's all personal preference I guess. I wanted mine hard mounted as I am always towing the camper or driving somewhere and I really don't like mag mounts or wires showing like with a temp install. The biggest PITA was taking the headliner down yet again to mount the antenna and all the coax. But I love it and it works great.

I used to cb all the time and enjoyed it very much. Still do every once in a while. I have an Icom V-8000 2-meter radio in my ranger. It works great. Real nice if you are out somewhere and need help where there is no cell signal.

Those are good radios and yeah they're perfect for roadside emergencies as well as just BSin. CB is actually kinda dead in the city but once you get on the road you can almost always find someone to talk to. Of course some hunting spots cb isn't enough.
