ohc, opps, poor headliner

so i installed the ohc, but i managed to screw it up. anyone know where i can get one? i need the whole thing, i found one on ebay for $130.

also i was looking at others ohc, how did you get the ohc so close to the headliner, it seems as if there would be a gap?

eBay is going to be the cheapest place to get one probably....i think driveaprerunner (might be slightly different user name) has one for sale that is grey out of his Ranger....there is a thread about it for sale...

as far as how close it is to the headliner at the back of the OHC, Griggs (n3elz) how to says you have to shim it down with pieces of headliner you cut out....luckly i didn't have to....don't know why, but i didn't...

stuff the headliner that you cut out underthe headliner to push it down. griggs' how to covers that issue.

sucks about the head liner. buy me a black one and ill send you mine!

I just installed an OHC. The bracket has a bend on it on the end that points to the rear of the OHC (the end with the screw holes) I only cut a hole in the headliner big enough to barley clear the width of the bracket and slip it above the headliner and just big enough to clear the front clip holes and the rear screw holes. When the OHC is mounted that bend acts to force the headliner down flush with the top edge of the OHC when it is screwed to the bracket sandwiches the headliner between it and the OHC keeping everything nice and flush. I can take a picture later if you need, it might help to explain my ramblings.

If i was you I first try and fix what you already got. Its a whole lot cheaper to buy some new headliner material and a can of spray adhesive and recover the entire thing. Its a little more work but it will save you a good chunk of money. Same thing for you Zadeard. I have done it twice on a F-150 and a XJ. Just make sure to spray the hell out of both sides, the headliner and the new material, before you press them together.

yeah, i would recommend glueing some poster board or even cardboard to the back side, then recover the headliner with some new material. you'll never know it's there.

a bunch of good ideas here, but the problem with just trying to repair it conflicts with what drmaczed said about the bracket and the ohc pinching the fabric to make it flush.

dr. i figured that is what would have to be done to make it flush.

I'm back in Rochester. Got back in Sept, but I'm leaving again for a 2nd internship in White Plains, NY from Jan - March.

If in the meantime you wanna get together, let me know.

It's been said before, "You can take off more if you need to, better to take off to little then take off to much." I'm sorry for your mishap.

I'll be installing mine as soon as I can with Daniel.

...I painted it Black instead of Gray, tho. Oops!
