Is my truck the only that does this with turn signals?

Is it just my truck or is it a symptom all Rangers have. My 2003 will only activate the turn signals with the wheel being dead center straight. Having it turned slightly in either direction prevents the turn signals from activating. Just gets kind of annoying when other cars can have the wheel turned and you can still activate the signals.

And is it possible to replace the 2003 turn signal lever with a high mount one from a later year? It feels weird having it low on the wheel.

No not normal, the steering wheel assembly has pins that turn off turn signals when you rotate steering wheel in the opposite direction of the turn signal selected, i.e. automatic off/reset
You can usually hear the click, click, click when turning the wheel as pins pass by

The multi-switch has a tab/lever that catches pin in one direction but lets it pass in the other, the clicks, when turn signal has been activated, so strictly a mechanical setup

I think multi-switch is probably at fault here

Not sure on other year multi-switch fits, wrecking yard might know, or check ebay, they often have Model Years for fitment

My 02 Ranger acts similar to yours. My steering wheel does not have to be to totally on dead center straight to activate the turn signal but it has to be near straight. I think it is kind of strange but have learned to live with it. There is only one corner that I take where the problem shows up but I drive it 5 days a week. I just wait until I can get the wheel near straight then turn on the signal.

I think if I am turning a little sharper I can activate the turn signal. It seems there is a position just slightly either side of off center that the problem shows up.
