New A/C Switch installed
I wanted to put in a ac cutoff switch and it took me a while to find the right one. I got this from a 92 mitsubishi eclipse on ebay. It didnt have a wiring harness so I will get another switch with the harness next weekend at the junkyard. I did take the switch apart and got everything pinned out and bench tested so I'll know what need to go where when I get the new switch. For now it is mocked up in the bezel. I like it! I'll post up when I get the new switch installed and wired up.

pretty cool...did you put in an expo auto climate control unit
|
Thanks! Yeah I installed the explorer climate control a few weeks ago. Was going to do it with a crown vic model but I couldnt find one for cheap. Had the wires and vacuum hoses mapped out and everything. I didnt want the rear fan off button. But now when I do get one it will be all just wiring at the radio bezel and switching a few vacuum lines.

how hard was that to put in...thats actually a pretty cool mod

It wasnt too bad. Hardest part was figuring out what pin did what on the switch. The bezel I had to trim out a little bit and I had to take some sandpaper to the switch to get it to fit inside the the cig lighter hole. On Friday Im going to go to the jy and get a later model switch(this one has 2 on positions?) and the harness. I'll take pics as I go and post up.

Ok its installed. I trimmed the lighter hole on the inside a little at a time until the switch would fit snug. Youll feed the switch into the bezel from the front, and the switch has a flange that will stop on that little"step", so trim it just enough.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...1031101807.jpg I also sanded the rest of the hole just a little and then sanded the flange on the switch just a little bit. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...031101807a.jpg I used a wiring connector from a 01? Eclipse so the wire colors will not be the same. I have that switch pinned out if anyone is interested. I didnt use it because I fried it not paying attention for a second. That one is just on and off. This one is from a 92 eclipse and has 2 on positions. As you are looking at the switch the pins are like this: Top Row: 1. Illumination Ground 2. Indicator Light Ground 3.Indicator Light + 4. Illumination + Bottom Row 5. To Ac Compressor 6. From Hvac http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...031101806b.jpg Tie the wires from Pins 1 and 2 together. These go to ground. Cut your purple wire on you hvac unit. Tie the wires from Pins 3 and 5 together. When you press the switch to the on position it will engage the compressor and turn on the indicator light. This one ties into thew purple wire going to the compressor/toward the firewall. Pin 4 goes to your illumination wire, I tied it in to the one for the radio. Pin 6 goes to the purple wire from your hvac unit. And the finished product. Sorry for the crappy pics, my camera doesnt take good night pics. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...031101821a.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...1031101821.jpg |
