I have a similar idea in mind but I am going to have the subs close to flush mounted in the cab with the enclosure going in to the bed with some wiggle room. I have a little more lee way since I have a 2wd that's lowered. if you are looking at keeping your tool box, make an L shaped box. flush mount the subs in the cab and then go smaller so you can tuck it under the box.

Just a thought.

One thing's for sure, you'll absolutely destroy the value of the truck.
Simply a bad idea.

Yea if your willing to cut your truck all to hell why don't you just remove the passenger seat and then you would have plenty of room?

haha.
i got a 12" mta behind my passengar seat and it slams. My cousin is 6' 4" and he rides in it all the time just a little tight. i even got the lip on the box re-lipped with a 2" spacer to fit the 12 and it works fine.

so wait im confused...are you talking about cutting a hole through the bed of the truck and the cab? kind of like an avalanche? cause that would be pretty tyte if it could be done. i wanted to put a system in the bed of my truck but everyone is telling me you wont hear it so much so i think im just going to put one alpine type x 12 behind the passenger seat. cause i mean come on as long as im comfortable and can lean back, thats all that matters haha

If I am following you correctly, I think a different train of thought may work better?
Say you cut out a lower part of the back of your cab and mount the speakers to the cab. This would require cutting a section out of headboard in your bed. Then build a box around that cut out as an enclosure for the speakers. This would allow max sound to the cab, the speakers would be moving with the cab and the enclosure would be moving with the bed as long as you leave enough space.
You would take up no cab space and the speakers would be under your bed toolbox.
I would assume you may have to put in some backing bar to reinforce the cut out areas.
