carpet or rubber flooring??

my '99 ranger xlt extendedcab came with the factory grey carpet. its in good shape and clean but i know it will just get dirty soon.

i found another '99 ranger extended cab in a junkyard with the rubber flooring and pulled it all out.

i pressurewashed the rubber mat but its taking forever for the felt padding on the back to dry. (i have it in my garage propped up on drywall buckets to dry out)

i am just worried if i install it, if the felt backing on the rubber mat gets wet it will make my floor rust .

what do u all think? rubber or carpet?

You will want to make sure the insulation is dry before you put it down. Thats just asking for troubles as the rubber isn't going to breathe any and the floor will stay damp for a long, long time.

Everyone has their own for the interior of their vehicles so do what you want.

As far as installing the rubber with the felt on the botton… IMHO if you haven’t already installed it, consider this.
First use a sound deadening material on the floor as far up the firewall as possible and up the rear panel to just under the rear window (I used “Fat Mat”, cheaper than most), clean the floor, wash it is if necessary and scrape and paint if rusted.
Take the Rubber Flooring and remove the felt padding (the padding is the main cause of rusting in the cab floor).
Find a Shop that sells a rubberized foam material that will fit and can be used under the Rubberized Flooring and put that in place of the Felt Pad.
Remember that you will need to adhere the two layers of material together, maybe the padding to the floor and the Flooring to the padding; use 3M Adhesive, waterproof if possible.

Again what this does is reduce the collection of moisture under the flooring material, the rubberized padding will give you a better feel in the flooring, help reduce moisture, and cut down on some of the noise.
The end results will justify the process and the overall cost and you will be happier with the mod.

rubber all the way..... and then you have perfect carpet underneath. plus its the only thing in my truck that gets armor-all used on it and it looks pretty slick. plus you never worry about dirty boots/shoes. super low maintenance.

like said above, let the felt dry first. just install above carpet and your golden

Or you could do what I did...I used both in my 93!

First, I put down a rubber floor that I pulled out of a 4th gen (I had to trim about 3 inches off the back end). I then put my carpet down on top of it. It definitely made the cab a bit more quiet.

Just a thought!

I did raammat soundeadner on the floor, firewall, backwall, inner and outer doors skins and roof. Then went with stockinteriors.com plush carpet kit. I dont take my truck offroad and live in cali where theres no mud, so carpet looks/works best for me.

If you keep the rubber mat, put it out in the sun a couple of days and let it dry out GOOD. Take out your carpet, install rubber mat and keep ur carpet in case you ever change ur mind.

I have rubber flooring and I personally would rather have carpet but just because I detail my truck regularly and do a wash and vacuum once a week so I wouldn't have a problem keeping the carpet clean.
