Newer model seats for 97 Ranger xlt 4x4?
Is it possible to directly replace the seats on my 97 XLT 4x4 with seats from a newer model without modifications? The driver seat is getting uncomfortable and I thought that seats from a newer totaled vehicle might be the way to go. I looked at custom seats and that would be great but like everyone else these days I'm on a budget. Any help will be appreciated.

ext cabs, yes and no. they should bolt up pretty well, but you will run into an issue for the seat belt. the 97 olders are mounted to a sliding rail. 98+ are not. you would have to bolt your belt to the new seats anyways.
reg cabs, not really. the mounting holes will need some work to get them to line up. again, you'll have to swap the seat belts.
97 and older and rangers reg or ext cab have a lot of bolt in options. this link will apply.

Mission accomplished
Well, there in, 2004 60/40s in my 97. Anyone who is considering the switch should just do it. The 04 seats are way more comfortable! They sit a few inches higher too. I'm 6' 1" and its not too much. The arm rest on the door in in better alignment too. The old seats looked great but my back was killing me. Not anymore. The tracks lined up perfectly. I just had to swap the seat belt receptacles on the seat which is pretty easy. Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm looking at some pretty nice 1997 Explorer seats. I have a 1995 Ranger XLT.
DS is electric, and PS is manual. Is it possible to put the PS seat on the DS.? I know the back rest lever will be the opposite, but can a person move the rececptacle for the seat belt to the oppostie side? The PS seat is in better shape, otherwise I would have to go with the DS on the DS, and hook up the electrics. How hard is hooking up the electrics on a seat? I think he said the were heated also.

Don't know where you stand on this mod and I do not know for sure about seat fitment in a '95 Ranger... !
Problems:
1) Not enough info on your exiting Ranger.
2) The Cabs got bigger, that is why the Explorer Seat were even able to fit in the newer Ranger, so I'm thinking it will be tight is you have a Std Cab.
Note: I put the Powered Explorer Seats in my '03 Std Cab, to me... they wasn't enough room for the seats and me to fit, too close to the steering wheel; the ext Cab had the extra space needed. I got lucky, a friend from the site swapped me a set of FX4 Bucket Seats which bolted in with my Tracks.
3) Seat Tracks from the Explorer fit in the Extended Cab but require modification to fit in the Std Cab.
Review everything in your truck, track mounting holes, any extra space, how much space you can give up !
Good Luck !

I found nice condition tan 60/40 seats out of a 2002 ranger extended cab, i want to put them in my 2001 ranger 60/40 regular cab. I looked into swapping seat tracks but looked like a nightmare with removing rivets correct? And the seats/tracks from the ex cab will not fit reg cab correct?
I need to be looking for seats from a 98-04 regular cab to fit my 2001 reg cab correct? Do they have to be the 60/40 style or can they be like 03 buckets to my 01 60/40?
Whats the difference between the 04+ seats? Can i find 04+ reg cab seats and fi tin my 01 reg cab?
Thanks
I come from the chevy s10 world where 94+ seats fit every other 94+ s10 and blazer. (reg cab, ext cab, 2 door blazer 4 door blazer, crew cab s10, etc all used same front seats)

A lot of questions I can't answer.
I would think the 01-03 Ranger seat tracks unbolt, others I do not know for sure but I would think the '01 Seat from a Standard Cab, no matter what they are, should bolt in to the cab of an '03 Ranger Standard cab.
I do know that some seats and I am not sure of the years, had rivets to hols the tracks inlace, MAYBE, if you take the cushion off the seats you can determine if the rivets can be replaced by bolts, not too bad, grind off the rivets heads with a cut-off blade, then replace with good quality bolts of the proper length, problem solved.
There is a How-To, that Modifies your existing 60/40, Driver's seat, to eliminate the extra 20% attached to the Drivers seat.
Not sure where the How-To is but I do remember it called out cutting off part of the seat, but when I first started my Seat exchange program, I found my Driver's Seat had a bolt on section to cover the extra width. Double check what you have, you may find out it is different from the rest, like my '03 EDGE was.
Sorry I can't be of any more help, I do a mod and move on and sometime don't look back... check out the How-Tos, you might your new Driver's Seat already in the truck.
