OHC and Auto Dim mirror installed!!!

15 Attachment(s)
So earlier this week I finished the OHC and mirror install. I followed Johns instructions on the OHC and Auto Dim mirror install simultaneously. I found a few variances but worked through all of them and even made a few alterations.

I ordered it on ebay with the harness, sensor and the mirror and ohc. I figured i should get the mirror now or else I would never do it later.
Attachment 209124

I took the old mirror off and started cutting the headliner. Talk about some nerve racking stuff knowing that at any given moment I could drill through the roof of my truck. Luckily my drill was deep enough that the bit sat down in there and it only stuck out half an inch. So heres the bracket mounted in the roof.

I ran the wires for the dome light and down the pillar. I unscrewed the fuse box and pulled it out and heres what i was working with. A couple of my wires were different colors, but i figured out what everything was with a process of elimination from what I had correct and the help of a test light. I separated the groups of wires by putting the mirror wires on the left and OHC wires on the right. Two wires from the mirror I did a Y connection with the OHC into my power and dimmer. HA...and you can see that crappy thing there is was using for outside temperature!!!
Attachment 209126 Attachment 209127

I ran the wires down the rest of the pillar, so i had to make extensions and left them down on the floor.

I then made the relay assmebly for the auto-lamp on the mirror with the two relays I bought at Oriellys.
Attachment 209128

I connected that to the white/purple wire from the pillar and ran the wires along with my power and dimmer up through the hole behind the fuse box. I cut the four wire and put on connectors there.
Attachment 209129

I had my efan tapped in to back of the box. I did the same for the power. I also found the dimmer light near the wires where I cut for the relay. I confirmed my finding with a test light. I also modified a wire tap a little with a hack saw, I cut it so it would not tear up the larger factory wire in the truck.
Attachment 209130 Attachment 209131

I then wrote where I put those taps in my manual for faster finding later.
Attachment 209132 Attachment 209133
Also found the reverse sensor light near the gas pedal.
Attachment 209134

And heres what you get. I love it and its awesome.
Attachment 209135

The only problem encounters was the even lowered voltage from the addition of the underdrive pulley a few months ago. And the 11.6 above is actually after the install with everything on in my truck I could think of, I was down to like 10.5 volts when I turned off my truck and only like 10.9 at an idle.So I ordered the 20%overdrive alt from Underdog Perfermance and had it here in two days....hes in TEXAS. And it brought me back to where I should be.
Attachment 209136 Attachment 209137 Attachment 209138

Well thats it. The driving in circles was fun...haha, my girlfriend was with me and she was like WTF. But its looks nice up there and I like the extra map lights.

The only interior mod I have left I want to do is to tackle Johns EATC mod...ha

Thanks to John for the How-tos and writeups and to Wayne with Underdog for the pulleys and fast shipping.

Great job! Even the wiring looks nice and neat. :salute[1]

I also like that less-talked about feature of the OHC, namely, that it offers more interior lighting. Now when it's dark outside and I hit the remote button, I'm greeted by a nice brightly-illuminated interior. And when I want to sit parked in my truck in relative privacy but still need a little bit of light up front, I can hit one of the OHC map lights for just the right amount.

I am getting ready to do my ohc in my 06. Maybe this weekend who knows. Great job on yours, looks nice.

What did you use to get the stock mirror off?

Nice...I love both those on mine. I agree that drilling those holes will make your skin crawl but taking it easy with the drill gets it done...lol!

well I did it that was b/c less wire and I already have something else tapped into my radio, so I didn't want too much stuff on there.
With it being wired behind the fuse box i can get to it easier and I already had the box out anyways.

Yes the autolamp feature is nice and no more lights in my mirror

bwester04 04-07-2007 04:47 PM

Nice install man.. I had to get used to NOT having the autolamps/autodim mirror after buying my car- if only I had gotten the VR6 GTI I wouldve gotten that good stuff. Oh well lol

BTW I was up in Kingwood the other day picking up a friend- that's not too far of a drive as I thought, I shouldve just driven that tuner to ya! lol

Ha, no its not too far from Galveston. I was thinking we gotta get a meet going soon around town.

JD 04-26-2007 08:47 PM

I have had the mirror and OHC installed for over a year, but need finish the wiring. I almost have the garage put away after moving in to the house a year ago. I need to get it finished.

MIC_LX 04-30-2007 02:01 PM

Bought that same OHC from Biz for my Gen2 Ranger, but haven't had the time to install it as I was installing the replacement airbags for my TBird and I really don't wanto to cut through the headliner... I know I have to, but it's just something that is holding me to cut through it :(
I hope mine would look as nice as that one, even tho I didn't buy the autodim mirror.

REUBER 04-30-2007 04:04 PM

i to have this (thanks Evan) waiting to get home but im weary of the cutting to....Im thinking of picking up an autodim too....looks good man!

BigBlueEDGE03 04-30-2007 07:12 PM

if you do, go ahead and get the dual visors with mirrors.

Biz 04-30-2007 08:34 PM

if anyone wants their truck to look as good as his..buy my OHC's and auto dim mirrors in classified section lol..
