Power Seat(s) Question
 

For those of you that have Power seats from an Explorer How did you hook them up? Is there an easier way to just convert them to manual(maybe swap the tracks)?

Just hook up a power wire, and a ground. That's it. lol

i took power from cig. lighter- non smoker. worked great for me.

Ditto. Most people ground the seats to the floor; I chose to run a ground wire out from the lighter as well.

I grounded mine to the floor, but i think i'm gonna re-route up to the lighter. it's a more stable ground. If i try to move my seat while the truck isn't running it bogs down real bad!!!

i powered mine from the power window/door lock spot in the power distribution box under the hood....that is were it would be powered at if it came factory with power seats......

if you look in your owners manual on the power distribution box, it will say "power windows, power locks, power seats" for the same spot...

I had a stable fused power and ground wire already ran to the rear area of my cab for my Sirius radio box that I intentionally ran with heavy gauge wire for when I added power seats. They work great! I was suprised by the big harness that the explorer had run into the seats with a bunch of wires going to it but when you pull off the harness, there is only 2 prongs...a power and ground. I guess the others are blanks for if the seat had heat or something which mine don't. You can clip off the harness and use it or you can just use small butt-connectors coated with liquid electrical tape to keep them from possibly touching each other and shorting out. BTW, when you get seats, figure on spending some extra money for new seat foam/cushions. The seats are usually pretty "squashy" after someone elses fat butt has been sitting in them for years and new foam can really revive the seats feel. Make sure to get the interior trim code off the drivers door build tag on the donor Explorer and you can take it right to the Ford dealer and order new pads based on which code you have. The code is important as there are many seat options availible. For example, 2001 Explorers (like the model that my seats came from) have 8 different seat options and all have different foam pad shapes.
