I'm thinking about getting some Yellow Leather Racing Seats for my truck.... but I'm concerned with the Airbag and Seatbelt sensors. is there a way to remove the airbag stuff out of factory seat and mount it on racing seat? Same thing for seat belts....

Anyone done this before?

the airbag censor is connected to the buckled you pluf the belt into, I beleive. and that is star bolted into the seat.

So with saying that, you could still plug the seatbelt in, it jsut wouldn't work unless you put it into the seat.

I'd get a 4 or 5 point harness if you are gonne get a racing seat though.

Hope this helped a little

that does help - as a start - and im definitely getting a 4point harness - looks better

thank you for the advice :)

I've done this. I run Recaro type seats with the genuine sparco harnesses for em. I dont have teh pyros for the airbags anymore, dont want the airbags at all to be honest.. I've been hammered by them before..

with the way the seats are mounted and those harnesses.. I don;t think air-bags are gonna prevent too much more damage from occurring.

The real pain of it all is I need to make some jumpers to diasble that stupid air-bag indicator on the dashboard... its always flashing now :)

I wouldn’t recommend the racing harnesses if your just going to daily drive your truck they are a PAIN IN THE ASS takes forever to put on, half the time you can get to the radio. Everyone forgets that stock seat belts allow you to move forward and racing harnesses don’t, you have to loosen the belts to move forward. But it’s up to you.

Not true. I can reach everything on my dash except the glovebox. Being a pita to put on? Not really true there either. This might be because Im a scrawny little twit BUT, I havent had any problems at all.

The problem I have had with stock seatbelts is on impacts, they put all the force to one shoulder where these harnesses spread the the impact more evenly. Regular seatbelts have ( in the past ) caught people around the throat/neck and left people with perminent injuries. You can also slide out of the open side of a seatbelt and not have your forward momentum stopped.

I find the harnesses to be more comfortable myself.

And they look good too. If your vehical is fast enough, its sometimes required to have them or you will be tossed off the track. It all adds to the vehicals 'image' as well. When I corner around turns or go out drifting, I LIKE being planted in the seat without being forced out from behind the wheel by the G's.

My only dilema.. seeing if Skot can fit in them when he drives Lexi next :D

Or unplug the restraint control module or RCM, located in the middle floor under the dash.

Lone_Ranger01 06-08-2004 12:34 PM

or I bet you could just plug a resistor into the empty socket to simulate the emergency belt tensioner and seat belt.
