Whats under my carpet?

Working on getting rid of my old nasty red interior, ive painted my vents and center console(found i had a buddy living in there at one point) the dash is probly getting painted tonight or sometime this weekend but i realized painting over my carpet and headliner is probly not a good idea, id really like to remove my carpet and either use rubber undercoat or a smooth DIY spray in bedliner,

question is what will i find under my carpet?
i assume there will be some wires but im sure i can find ways around that, road nosie is something i can deal with i ride in jeeps with no doors or top everyday

There may be some wires along the tranny tunnel. I too have thought about this and have thought about using a bedliner product like Bed Armor like I have in my bed. Lizard Skin is another one that I have heard is excellent and can also reduce heat. You can also get peel-n-stick sound deadening material. As far as the wires, just wrap them up with plastic of some sort in case you use a liquid based product to keep the product off. Please let us know what you did and how it turns out!

Don't use spray in bedliner. It will not look good, and you will have wires laying about. You can clean and maybe dye your carpet, I don't know much about that though, or ou can try and get vinyl or even a new carpet from the junkyard.

I took my carpet out of mine and used herculiner on it. There are some wires (mine was only one group running from under the fuse box to under the divers seat that went to the seatbelt, transmission, transmissoin, and the tailights and stuff) and then there is also some type of sound deadener that is glued to the metal. Some of mine was broken and free so i removed as much of it as i could before i started sanding.

Here is the link to the thread and ill get the pics loaded back into.

Wires and tape.

I would try to re-route the wires if at all possible just to keep them out of the high traffic areas.

You'll find Narnia under the carpet.

A black clear coat wouldn't be a bad idea, but if you don't put anything back in, your going to hear an absurd amount of road noise.

you can find headliners in the junkyard all day, thats what i would do for that.

Thought just popped into my head, I'm not so much worried about it being cold but will it get extremely hot in the truck without any carpet or anything? I've been cheap and my a/c needs a recharge, don't want to be driving back and forth from Kentucky in a frying pan

I noticed some heat from the floor but never felt hot in the truck because of just that.

LMC or rockauto might have replacements. Just get a different colour. If you leave it bare water, dirt and whatever is gonna start giving you issues.

If you don't like carpet, find a sport or fx4 and swap it to rubber.

Not really honestly. When I put down sound deadening in my 01' I pulled the seats and the carpet. It's just metal under the carpet. I will note that if anyone pulls the carpet and doesn't put it back, the interior of the truck gets rather warm because of the trans tunnel. To the point that it's uncomfortably hot at times. I used RAMATT and their foam. It was a pita to be honest but did insulate the truck better. I did the doors, floor and roof.
Make sure you get a rubber roller to put down the material. You WILL cut your fingers up trying to do it pressing your hand/fingers into the aluminum backing, it's like getting a cardboard cut but worse because the aluminum slices right through your flesh and you don't realize it until there is blood everywhere...
