standing water on drivers floor board.
 

The other day I got in to my truck after a long hard rain and the drivers side floor board had about half a inch of water on it, I took the water hose today and for about 30 mins tried to get it to leak again so I could find where the water was coming from but no luck. I dont think it is the door because there was no water on the left side of the harness that runs down the floor right there. so im guessing the water came from under the dash and the hump where the harness is kept the water away from the door.

I remember seeing a couple post about a common leak from under the dash but I dont remember what year rangers that was on or if it was on the driver or pass side. Any ideas?

might be the 3rd taillight on the top (if you have one). I've been told those leak on fords and channel into the truck.

A drain plug could be missing from your floor.

Unless it was raining up underneath his truck, I dont see how that would be a reason. Im with cloud on this one, the 3rd tail light has leaked before on my buddies truck several times. Check your door seals and make sure there are no rips in the rubber that you cant see. (stretch it a tad to reveal holes)....

Also...your windows were cracked a bit were they?

Third brake light was leaking but I sealed it so that isnt it. I really dont think its the door because there was no water by the door, and I did check the seals for it and they look fine.

Today I got in the truck after it rained and the drivers floor was a little wet and it was hard to tell but it looked like water was coming from under the dash near the e-brake.


I got a pm about this and the guy said he has had the same problem since he changed to glass fenders, and I just replaced my core support and loosed the fender bolts up when I did, so I think it has something to do with that.

So, what could cause a leak when loosening or removing the fenders?

I hope somebody comes here with info on this. I have the same problem. My carpet was always abit wet, but it was coming from under the carpet, not the door. I got frustrated and peeled it back a bit the other day, ice all over the bottom, and 2 handfulls of sand I scraped out. I locallized it near the ebrake pedal as well. I looked but could not find any holes. Come summer, I plan on ripping the thing apart, going in during the night time with a light under the truck to see if I could find a hole.

Any ideas?

guys do you have any smell with it? it could be the heater core leaking. they drip in to the floor. it could also be a plugged condensation tube from the AC pooling up the water and once the level is high enough, it runs or drips out. One other possibility is that (and I had this) is the heater box has come loose. the box bolts loosened up and made a small gap between it and the firewall. when I drove in the rain it would get water up under the bottom of the box and into the cab. I tightened everything up and it was fine. Just some thoughts.

Wouldn't the water be on the passenger side if it was either of those though?

it rained today and I had water in the floor again. I looked for a trail or drops to try to find where it was coming from but nothing, I think im goin to put a towel on the floor so I can see better where the water is coming from since I have the vynil floors.

i have the dealers' plastic carpet cover on and then a folded towel and then rubber floor mats. I used to get the water between the mat and plastic and then threw a towel between it. no problems

Nope, no smell.

And the sand doesn't come from the ac.


What and where is a heater box?

The heater box goes thru on the passenger side but it runs a little over halfway accross the cab. I didn't see the words "driver side"were in your original post. you can check the stuff I mentioned before but I would also look for missing grommets in the fire wall as well.

How do you go about doing that ?

I have standing water on both the drivers and passengers side it's only on the bottom of both sides, never on the middle or on the sides..

Check for missing plastic plugs especially the one under the drivers seat. If everything looks ok, pick up a can or two of spray on undercoat and spray the bottom of the cab. Remove and add sealent to the screws that secure the door sill plates especially if you go off roading through water. Also, check the inner fender splash shields.

If those are good, check the cowl drains making sure there open. leaf litter can plug them allowing water to build up in the cowl. If you run your A/C alot the evap drain could be plugged. I've also heard there was a problem with the water deflector in the cowl but dont have any info on it.

Also check the door drain holes. If there plugged water could overflow the splash shields and leak inside. The only other area would be the front windshield, third brake light, or back window.

Walked out this AM for my first trip to work in my, new to me, Ranger. It came w/ those plastic floor mats designed to contain mud w/ a nice lip around the edges.

After last night's thunder storms I put my foot into almost an inch of water collected on the floor mat.

The pink card for inspection form MVC was soaked and the area in front of both sun-visors was wet!

What are these cowl drains everyone is referring to? How does one clean them?

My cowel drains are clogged, but Iam trying to find out who to clean them as well. I can hear the water in my heating vent sloshing around when I make turns. Then, it pours out on the drivers side. I guess the only way to get in there is to remove the heater motor assembly?

Found the access to the cowl drain on the drivers side. It is located on the firewall, near the fender. There are three screws that hold it on. You will need to remove the fuse cluster underneath the hood (3.0l engine layout) and put it aside (there are two clips that hold it). Then, just remove the access panel completly. Clean out the "gunk" in the corner of the cowl/fender area and then take a garden hose and flush the rest out. You will see all of the water drain out the bottom.

The only way I can see getting to the passengers side drain is to remove the antenna assembly and clean it out from there? Or, maybe take the center access panel (against the firewall) and flush it out with the hose.

i might have the exact same issue. mines leaking from the pass side.

under my floor mats is always wet when it rains...It pisses me off.

I made this thread at the beginning of last year. lol

i just fixed my leak :) i had rust behind the kick panel that had holes in it that water was coming in..bondo fixed that lol

I never did find out what mine was, it just kinda stopped on its own. I dont even have the truck anymore so I guess that fixed the problem to. lol I miss that truck everyday though.

It has been raining for the past 3 days and I got in my truck today and there was an awful standing water smell and I found my carpet soaked on the drivers side. I guess I'll be looking around searching for the cause as well.

i've done all this stuff and still got a wet floor , drivers side, 3inchs in from door from my heel to some dam where up the carpet.
it's been makin' me nuts for 3 yrs
taped off the windshield (which I sure didn't think was the culprett)
