CB info/ PIC request.

Alright well I am looking at getting a CB in my truck for offroad/onroad use. And i am wondering what everyone recommends for a CB radio.

I am looking at a Cobra 29 LTD 40 Channel CB for 69.99 brand new.

Is this a good deal?

also where is everyone mounting them in their trucks?

And where would i mount mine?

I have an 03 FX4 lvl II with twin sticks and a the bucket seats.

Theres other threads...but i can't seem to find the ones i'm looking for. I think a couple guys with twin sticks mounted their big cb behind the center console...out of the way...and a decent location. I really like my cb's roof location myself.

I have a cobra 29 ltd classic. I've had it since '03. I ran it when I drove a truck. Mine cost me $89 or $99 then, so yours is a good price. As far as an antenna, I've got a wilson magnetic mount(lil wil). When I need it, I put it up top and run the cable thru the sliding window. When I'm done, I take it down. On mounting, I took out my ashtray and moved my pass. airbag switch. I used an adjusable mounting bracket and bolted it in. You would be able to see where you could bolt it in. By using an adjustable bracket, you'll be able to line up the hole as well as have the correct width for the cb. Somebody on here put it where I did but used a non adjusting bracket and zip ties to mount the bracket. I had 3 bolts that luckily fit, so it's not going anywhere. I'll post pics of the bracket mounted and how the cb looks mounted tomorrow.

I use to have the Cobra DX IV due to size, but I wanted something more compact but still have the PA function so I went with the Cobra 76 XTR, just don't care for the bright blue color, other than that it works perfectly!

Yeah well i like the idea of the roof mount. but i am also wondering if i can put it in my center console that way its hidden and out of the way.

What is an okay length for a cb antenna?

And yeah i get all cobra products at cost.

I mounted mine on the side of my toolbox too, good place to mount especially since you dont have to drill any holes in your truck...OUCH!
Plus a normal antenna wire is just long enough to travel from the toolbox, under the truck, inside the cab, and under your kick guard to the cb.
I mounted my cb first on the ceiling too, but after hitting one too many holes she was always getting shaken loose, nothing too secure up their to hold it tight really.
I moved the cb's mounting spot to down under the dash pretty much above gas petal, i know sounds like a tight spot but its perfect when your driving.
....Just an idea, worked for me...?!!!

I ran it through the firewall right behind the ebrake pedal then across the frame up into the tail light area into the bed for the coax and then power to the fuse block and ground in the bay right next to the fuse block where there is already a ground bolt

4ft. whip seems to be the norm to get.

I was lucky to have someone show me the first time around, so the second time I did it myself and it was super easy. Just need to crimp on two connectors and unscrew a bolt for the ground and a nut for the power. hardest part was getting the wire run since it was a somewhat tight area.

Did it come with enough wire or am i gonna have to prepare to add more wire??

Did you just run it off your battery?

Or is it wired to turn on when the key does like the radio?

Should have plenty of wire.

On the front of the fuse block in the engine bay there are two screws, they are both power, I just took the nut off slid the connector over and put the nut back on. I can turn it on with the truck on or off. You can wire it to the radio if you want to do it that way, but this way I can use my PA without having to turn my truck on.
