fixing cb, doesnt let talk
I found on craig's list 2 cb radios for $25...the catch is that neither of them can transmit over the radio (as in you can't talk to other people), but can recieve fine. Sound like something easy to fix, or too much of a hassle/waste of time. Been looking to get a cb for the truck and didn't think $25 was a bad deal...but I would like the luxiary of being able to f@*k with the truckers as I'm goin down the Mass pike to/from school. Opinions?

You can get a nice new radio for not much more than that. The Uniden Pro 510XL or 520XL come to mind. Saying that, I can't agree with your idea of messing with the truckers. The radio waves are too clogged already with people wasting the air-waves doing what you plan to do. These guys and gals have a job to do and the CB is an important tool for there job. They don't need a bunch of people taunting them or clogging up the air-waves.

It's a crap-shoot. There are basically 3 main reasons you can't talk to people (there are more, but these are vast majority of them):
1. Bad microphone element. In this case the rig will go into "transmit" mode, but no one can hear you, though you are putting out a radio signal.
2. Bad cable/connector/switch. Here, the signal from the mic when you push the talk button doesn't get to the radio to make it go into transmit mode. When you press the mike, the speaker may shutoff, but the transmit light doesn't light.
3. Blown "finals". The worst scenario. The RF power section in the rig is gone and transistor(s) and/or other components need to be replaced to make it work again. May look like it's transmitting, but there is little to no signal coming out.
I agree it's stupid to mess with trucker. Immature and nothing to be gained by it. It just makes the radio useless for others who need it -- did you get on this forum just to "mess" with us? Why would you abuse a communications medium like that? Doing so makes you an @ssh0le if you do.

alright alright i get the point....didnt mean to get on everyone's bad side by the truckers comment...but thanks for the advice either way as I figured I'd be passing up on those radios anyways. Where can you find those Uniden radios for around the same price you say? I've found some on ebay but they are different models and usually going for around $50 w/o antenna
