Icon5 What is it??

I own a 1999 Ranger. There is one thing I haven't figured out. On the dash, on the right side of the CD player/radio, and to the left of the passenger air bag there is a oval shaped opening with a plastic grid over it. What the heck is this? Something to do with the passenger air bag maybe? I have not been able to find information about it, but I figured a lot of you Ranger owners must know what it is. I could insert an image link, but I bet I wont need to.

It's for the interior temp sensor of the optional EATC climate control that was available on the Explorer that used the same dash. It has no function on a stock Ranger. You'll also notice a dime sized hole in the top of the dash on the passenger side - it was for a sunload sensor for the same system.
