electronic odometer will likely give you problems
also Ford changed the idiot guages to idiot lights for the oil pressure and voltage

im sure it could be done with some fabbing and electrical knowledge, but your time and money could be better spent on a set of aftermarket gaugues that are made specifically for your truck

What if I put a 99 gauge cluster in my 2004? Can I use an older cluster in the newer truck?

No. From what has been discussed in the past, it seems that the odometer reading comes from somewhere other then the cluster in 2004-05, probably one of the many onboard computers. Where as in the 2003 and down, the odometer was a mechanical gear driven mechanism that received its signal from the speedo.

EDIT: After rethinking, there is a small possibility that the odometer would still work but noone that I have heard of has taken out a newer cluster to even see if the plugs would fit. And like Neil mentioned, all the dummy lights are differnet and there are even some gauges removed in the new clusters. So I am still leaning on the side of it not working.

I don't think the odometer is an issue. More like the gauges. It could be the electronic odometer just reads the VSS signal just like the electromechanical odometer did.

I would be more worried about overall wiring harness changes. I have no idea if the connectors are even the same that plug into the dash module. I have no prints for, and have not seen in person, a 2004 dashboard connection system.
