wiring suggestions for aftermarket accessory for '07 Ranger

Hello, I have a 2007 Ranger XLT Supercab.

I want to replace the "ordinary" functionless rear view mirror with a Gentex GNTX-453, which has Homelink and a compass.

I bought one on ebay; it has three wires on a harness:

Black/Silver: ground
Black/Red-Orange: compass
Black/Yellow: Homelink

I want to wire the compass to ignition-only, the Homelink to always-on, and the ground to an appropriate location.

My question is, in your respective opinions, WHERE and HOW should these three wires be connected?

Thank you!

My initial thought is to use a device(s) like this
and (maintaining the correct amp fuses of course) wire:
- compass to Fuse 6: 10A - radio (run/accy) (pg. 183 of owner's guide)
- Homelink to Fuse 13: 15A - horn, interior lamps (pg. 183 of owner's guide)

Anyone see a problem with this?

As for the ground, is there an established spot for this? Is there a suitable bolt near the passenger side footwell (near the fusebox) that I could wrap the ground wire around? Is there a better way?

Thanks!

Yes, that sounds OK

You will need to remove the passenger side kick panel to run the wires, and you will see this: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec..._project-5.jpg

That's the SJB(Smart Junction Box) which is the Body Computer, runs all the cab electrics, the Fuse Box is part of the SJB
In the picture, at the lower right, you can see a black/blue wire grounded to a bolt, that's a good ground

Oh yesss, that's exactly what I need, thanks!

The add-a-circuits should arrive in a couple of days. I'll let y'all know how it goes. I might even make a new posting describing the entire mod.

Meanwhile, even just the new mirror, without having it hooked up to anything, looks and works great. I got it used on ebay for 40 bucks, but it looks like it's brand new.

You have all of those sources going into your radio. I would honestly just tap those sources and run it up the a pillar to the mirror.
