An ORV pass for vehicles (also required for access) costs $16.25 and is good for a full year. Non-residents will also need a "Sportsmans Pass" which is $1 and is good for life. The ORV pass can be purchased with CASH only. The ORV pass and Flags are available at any gas station in town.

State park permits must be purchased at the park. I would suggest cash because if there is no one at the gate you must purchase one from a ranger that is roaming the park.

Orange Flags are $20 and MUST be mounted on the front of the truck. Mounts are available for under $20 from the same places that sell the flags.

You need a flag, orv sticker, and state park pass to get into the dunes.... ORV sticker and State park can be bought at the Dunes.
i would need:
a flag = $20
mount = $20
annual pass = $29
day pass = $8
ORV pass = $16.25
sportsman pass = $1 (good fo lyfe)
total: $93.25 ballpark

the sportsman pass, flag and mount are onetimes. so if i go out again in the year, all i'd need to buy would be a day pass to the park of choice. however, next year i'd have to buy just the annual pass, day pass (again everytime i go to a park) and the ORV pass.

is this right?

EDIT: so it's not both the yearly park pass and the daily park pass, it's one or the other. if i kno i'm gonna be going more then 3 or 4 times to silverlake it's better to buy the annual pass where as more then likely, i'll only need the day pass since it's a one time thing. which would cut my cost by $30. correct?

also how does the mount mount? do i need to fab something or can i just undo the screws and hook it up to my tow hook?

You either need a day pass OR a annual pass to get into the state park (where the dunes are located).

The campground does have a stay 3 nights get the 4th night free deal. I am bringing my camper out again this year. I have 1 or 2 spare beds if any one wants a place to sleep and is willing to split the cost of the site. I hope to be there for 8 nights if it all works out.

Here is all the Campground/Hotel/Dunes info (you might want to put this in the first post) These are the details from last year, I have updated the camping and hotel info, the state park rates may have changed.
I'll take one of those beds.

The mounts sold at the dunes are a flat piece of 1/8th inch with a hole on one end for the flag and a small u-bolt on the other end. Alot of people will clamp them onto their tow hooks but they don't hold on to well. Your probably best off fabing something up, if you need help or one made let me know.

Its the State Parks sticker not the Metro Parks sticker, but yes you can get it down here rather than at the dunes. Its the same price every where.

I still want to come, I have a wedding in Western South Dakota the weekend before, so If I do, I will be heading 11 hours west to come back for three days and head 15 hours east. Yikes.

I know last year Aaron (Lifted50), hes a buddy of mine who always comes to the dunes, had made up a couple of recievers for the front hitch that had a tapped hole so they would accept the dunes flags. They worked great.

I would bring both....Most of the guys do run in 2wd.

We can always leave the quad at the camp ground if you dont ride it.
