New member, old '93 Ranger
Greetings, I'm new to the forum and on the hunt for info! I have a '93 XLT, 2.3 L, 4 cyl, 5 speed Ranger. Moderately stoked that I got my starter replaced by myself. Now she starts reliably and gets me down the road. I'm thinking fuel filter may be next. What's up with the "special" tool for that I've seen reference to? Anyway, thanks in advance and I look forward to enjoying the forum and its members.

It is a tool that is placed around the fuel line and then you slide it into the connector, this release internal clip and fuel line will separate.
But, on my '94 they used slide in plastic clips with 2 prongs, you just use a screwdriver to lift the clip and then pull it out, this releases the fuel line.
Just as a heads up on the fuel system, it will have 40psi of pressure inside, you need to relieve the pressure.
On the fuel injector rail there will be a schrader valve, like a tire's air valve, put a towel over it(your hands) and use a small screw driver to open the valve, just like you would an air valve, it can spray 30ft which is why you want the towel over it, lol.
Or, you can pull out the fuel pump relay and start the engine, engine will die when pressure drops.
On the '93 the fuel pump relay should be on the passenger side fender, it will have a Green Base, Brown base is the EEC relay, Black base is the WOT relay, these 3 relays are usually together.
Or, on the fuel rail there will be a Fuel Pressure regulator(FPR) it will have fuel lines connected and a vacuum hose attached, remove this vacuum hose at the intake manifold end and suck on it, this will release the pressure and send the fuel back into the tank.

Hi I am new to this forum. I am hoping someone can help me with my problem. I have a 97 ranger xlt 3.0 4X4 five speed. I have an idle probem, it increases at every stop. i have replaced the air idle control and another part i forgot what it i. any suggestions. forgive my spelling i went to public school.
