Any performance plans for the motor?
none over stock . I have debated doing a cam and it seems that everyone has an opinion on how to go about it but I have determined to go with the stock explo cam for now . I am mainly concerned with getting this puppy in place and wired up. after that I can always build a 331 or 347 and stick in there
A cam isn't a bad idea. The expo cam leaves a little bit to desire. Even a mustang HO cam would be an improvement if you can find one, they are very stout. One thing to watch for with an aftermarket cam is the LSA, look for something high like 114 or maybe even 112.Any thing lower and the explorer pcm starts to have alot of trouble.
are you going with a stock EFI, or aftermarket EFI, or are you going with Carburetors? flattapping or roller cam? you're going with a 302 right?
it is a stock 5.0 from a 96 exploder
i was told to stay away from anything with a duration over 220 but ford says that any of there alphabet cams will not work with my pcm.i would like tohave an ho cam or cobra seein that i have the heads and intakes for it but i would have to be certain it would work before using one of those 2
I would avoid the alphabet cams. They are old technology and single plane cams. A more modern dual plane cam is a much better performer all around. I really like what comp cams offers, and you can email their tech support for a personal cam recommendation. That have alot of good HO replacement cams that perform well without crazy amounts of lift and duration.

IM running a B cam over the stock E cam in my build but im gettin my ecm reflashed
keep with
* COMP Cams * Crane Cams * Edelbrock * Isky Racing Cams * Lunati * Melling * Summit Racing |
I may stick with the stocker and swing the funds at the headers. what are the best bang for the buck I dont have 750 for monsters
The torque monsters are more important on the 98+ trucks because of the design. On your 94 you should have a choice of many different swap headers. I have L&L headers no mine which work just fine.
what did they set you back
I plan to install the cam tonight and I am also thinking of throwing the timing chain on . I was told that the cam sensor was easy to align as long as you have the crank and the cam set in alignment with the chain in place
cam and lifters are installed . this weekend i will be pulling parts fomt the ex
Do work man. Make sure to post up some pictures as you go. As for the header cost I think they are around 250 to 300.
i realize i need motor mount and do you know if i can use the exploder oil pan will work with the mustang mounts
I don't know of any clearance issues with the pan and the mounts (but that doesn't mean their aren't any). You normally just need a dual sump oil pan, but I know the mustang motors far better than the explorer motors.
i have ordered 2 left side mustang mounts and will have them in the morn . i looked up some l,l headers on there website and they wanted like 400 for them. another issue is if i can use the ex, oil pan i will also be able to use the stock timing chain cover. one less thing to by. most of the threads i have read deal with newer conversions, i guess i should have done this 10 years ago and everyone would still be discussing those model years
has anyone used the harwoods conversion manuel
