A Brave New World...
A Brave New World...
Hello! My name is Jason and I'm from Orange County, CA
I'll try to make a quick summary of how I am here. Currently work as an audio engineer for a local production company. I have always been interested in learning how to become a self-taught mechanic, with a lot of help from a friend and hopefully on here!
My buddy used to own a 95' ranger I believe and told me how much he loved it and how simple and durable it was. So, being a fan of the older models and wanting to learn how to drive stick...I bought a used 84' with only about 30k miles on it. It was a steal so I thought and I am in love with it!
The owner I bought it from had it stored indoors for over 20 years.
However about a couple months ago I was driving it and was sitting at a traffic light. It turned green and as I tried to pull forward I stalled it. Not wanting to **** anyone off I tried to start it back up and drive again but once again slipped on the clutch too soon and stalled again. Tried once more but I had the revs up pretty high and shifted which caused a horrible sound which sounded like someone put a couple rocks in a ninja blender...
Even still a novice and even more back then I knew I had to stop driving it immediately. Towed it to my garage and after taking off the transmission first thinking that was the problem it was actually in the engine chamber no3 where the piston had smacked the spark plug, so I think, and shattered the ceramics which caused the engine to sound like a garbage disposal.
Good news though! The cylinder walls are undamaged and actually still have a perfect crosshatch pattern on them.
However my mechanic-guru buddy of mine went on tour for 11 months 😱
So here I am with my Chilton book attached to my hip and hopefully with some of your guys help I'll get this sucker put back together and running once more!
I know maybe bit off more than I can chew but hey, when do you really learn than being completely submerged in it?
Cant wait to meet you all and see everything this community has to offer.
Thanks for reading! Rock out ✌️
