Ok, not sure how to label myself, LOL
Not my first Ford Truck, but this one is sweet.

2000 Ranger XLT Supercab, 4.0, 4x4 std tran w/od, 160,000mi. (paid 2,200) Pics to come soon.
Was homed in AZ, then 2yrs in WV, soon to be in Maine. So "No Body Rust anywhere" a little rust where the "original fact" spare tire was. As this "is" a truck I expect to see dings, dents, scratches, and rub marks of questionable origin. To me pretty trucks are underused equipment, LOL. Now don't get in a snit, I've had a few pretty ones myself. One day I may regale ya with the 10 sec "76" 150 I had. (God I miss that truck)

In 54 yrs I have owned and registered 50+ vehicles. A few I would love to still have or get again. Not in order, (r)-denotes restored, (p)-denotes pristine).... 68 Buick Electra 225 440cid (r) ... 77 LTD Wagon (p) ... 69 Cevy Van 108WB (r) ... 70 1/2 RS Z28 (r) with a ss 327 hooked to a 2sp powerglide.
But my fav was a 1976 F150 xlt automatic I bought from a kid who was given the truck from his Dad, and promptly "almost" blew the engine. I paid $400 for it in 1987. It had a 360 that he had seized a main bearing. This baby was pristine, a "Daddy's Truck" No extra adornments, stock tires and rims, not even fog lights. I got it to go to work and leave the 77 LTD for the wife. I asked a garage friend if he had a engine I could buy from him, he offered a 360 he had outside, but it was full of water. I said I wanted something with less work needed, he said he'd get back to me. The next day he mentions he has some old cars behind his parents house he'd sell me a big block from. so for $75 I got a 390 from a 1962 Thunderbird. Yes Folks the Hi-Perf 390 "401 HP with triple 2 bl's" ... With a mod to use the trucks motor mounts, as everything else bolted on just fine. This truck at the 1/4mi strip would do 9.8 to 10 sec. This was a purely accidental luck shot of it all hooking up with perfect application of HP to tire, I did nothing else to help that besides tuneup and new carbs. I tell ya, what a blast to drive. What's a bit funny is I sold it to a state trouper who also was seen runnin it around smokin the tires off her.

I think your memory of that truck may be a bit tainted. It would take more than a 401 hp 390 to get a 76 F-150 down a 1/4 mile track in less than 10 seconds. I have a 69 Fairlane Cobra with the 428 CJ engine that pumps out near 400 hp. I think it would barely get into the upper 12 seconds through the 1/4 mile and I am pretty sure a 76 F-150 weighs more than a 69 Fairlane.

I am sure it would smoke tires really well though.

Two comments to your reply ....
One ... HP in a RPM range applying torque thru a correctly tuned gearing at the wheel ... can do it.
Two, Example ... ProStock class, 69 Camaro, stock 396 (375 hp) single 4bbl, std trans/auto trans, Built in Auto Shop in High School. Did 10.5 with std trans and went 10.0 to 10.2 with Auto trans. It did this as we spent hrs balancing weight to HP/torque judiciously.

Just looked up our vehicles ... Your Fairlane was 3,490 lbs, The F150 was 3,805 (factory base models on both).

Not to raise a ruckus, just offering opinion's here.

Already put 4 leaf springs with brackets in rear (sanded and painted frame), modernized rear view mirrors, Class III hitch (with electric brake control), new tires (3 inch wider, same dia) Fiberglass cap, took interior out and super cleaned rug and seat fabric (still putting seats back together). New PS pump (prev owner had PS fluid not ATF fluid in it, and it whined Big time) Spark plugs, FF, ANti freeze, Hoses and belt (w/tentioner)

Only had this truck for a month, got into to it Huh? Lots more to do, and the parts are lining up. Brush/grill guard, Roof lights (like the F series but only 4) Fog lights (just inside the dr lights)

Not sure what else, but ideas all the time. Anyone think Dual exhaust on a 4.0? or running boards ? (wife is only 5'2")

I think it isn't true dual exhaust but lots of people like doing that.

Hmmm, "What do I do for work?"
(a) to receive monetary compensation for labor = most anything.
(b) long list of many industries, Mechanical and Wood for most of my life.
(c) Retired.
(d) Currently, I'm a Farmer (or will be soon, just bought a large track of land).
(e) Independently "not too" wealthy.

You know ... This gets me thinking of starting a blog on Human interaction.

Bringing up opinions, I ran this by the FE forum group to see what they thought about your HiPo 390 powered F-150 and running sub 10s through a 1/4 mile. The people on there range anywhere from professional drag racers to top armature racers. They run everything from Galaxies to Fairlanes and Mustangs along with F-100s and F-150s. One guy even worked for Holman and Moody back when Ford was using them for all the pro racing development and engine building. These guys know what it takes to get a 390 or any FE down the track at low numbers.

I will not repeat exactly what they said but will summarize it with; no way will any 390 that Ford built at the factory power a 76 F-150 down the 1/4 mile in less than 10 seconds. It doesn't matter what gears and tires you use nor the type of transmission.

I am not trying to make a ruckus either but also don't like to see misinformation posted. Maybe your clock was wrong or the distance was not measure accurately.

Simply put, your opinion wasn't at the track that day. Wish I still had the slip with times and speed. Trust me, was a shocker to all who were there. The phrase of the day was "Wow, She really hooked up" Since I have no proof to offer, I'll leave this post and replies alone.
