Hello

I just joined the boards, I have been mulling over my next vehicle purchase for some months now and have settled on a Ranger. 2000 to 2005 Supercab with Automatic, V6 and heat/air. I am researching maintenance issues and fuel economy mods as it will be my sole vehicle for work/school/play. I look forward to lurking for awhile and reading posts.

if i could make one suggestion, get a standard, and 4wd. cant go wrong there. if you know how to drive a standard, good. if not then their really not too hard to learn. the 3.0 is a BULLETPROOF v6, but the 4.0 isn't too bad either, more power. the auto tranny has some minor issues, a standard is more maintence friendly, but overall, amazing trucks. i got a 99 supercab, with a 3.0 v6 and the t5 standard. i absolutly love that truck. but good luck to you, really cant go wrong with a ranger, very reliable trucks. and welcome to the forum

I appreciate the suggestion about the tranny but medical issues make a manual out of the question. Any suggestions when I look at the automatic tranny's? What should I know to steer clear of?

Welcome..I would go for a 4.0 Auto...either 2wd or 4wd depending on your needs!

well for issues i've been told that 1st and 5th gear will be your first to go out, on both, but look for slipping and hard shifts, but they will come with age. now if you are looking for an older auto try to find out if the fluid has been changed, as that can make or break how you maintain the tranny
