Hello everyone! My name is Ken and i live in Rhode Island. I picked this wonderful Ranger up last winter. Its a 1996 2WD 2.3L 5speed....I've left it stock. But I plan on doing a mild lift with slightly larger tires. Here is a picture.

its a reg cab flare just drop that thing and enjoy the mpg

 

I'm planning to do a Rough Country 4inch lift and then throw on some 34x9.5 Super Swamper Narrow S.S.'s. I know the truck is going to be slow......real slow. However the truck is already slow, and I don't so any trails or even take it on the highway. I just drive back a fourth to work and never exceed 50mph. I used to have a 2000 s-10 xtreme that i went the lowered route with. I found out that I'm not a fan of lowering. I had a 1997 expedition that i threw 33x9.5 inch interco thornbirds on. Needless to say i found out that I like big tires not little tires. And I already get 25mpg and I know that is going to be much worse with the 34's but with gas prices dropping like a rock I think I'll be OK.

But I'm also thinking I can just get a set of those 2inch spring perches and slap the 34's on with the stock suspension. I think I can...I think I can...I think I can.....

 

i had 2" front leveling and the max you can go is 32x11.5x15 and it was tight...

4" and 34's will also be very tight. you better look into atleast 4.56 gearing minimum

I've done my measuring. They'll fit in the back no problem. They'll rub in the front at full steering lock (but that's with stock suspension). Like I said beforei know its going to be slow, but stock 4.11's shoud be fine....I've always wanted 1st gear to be a little lower ratio anyway. Keep in mind you were running an 11.5 inch wide tire...I'm going narrower.

hope you arnt planning on running steel wheels also..

 

Why not??? I know those tires are hard as hell to mount, that comes with the territory of 8ply tires. I had a hard time mounting my thornbirds, but didn't bend the rim at all. And a 15x7 AR767 had no problem supporting my 6500lbs suburban.

 

Steel wheels will be even heavier and more unneeded wieght. They'll make you truck even slower that's it going to be w/ a 2.3 and 34"s.


p.s. Gas will not stay down. It will go back up sooner or later. More likely sooner.

I'm not trying to build an eco-truck.....just one that'll get me to work in the snow.....with a little style! I have had many friends with jeeps that sold them as soon as they lifted them and got big tires, because "this thing won't do 80mph on the highway anymore". i know what I'm getting into.

looks great, personally i wouldnt go bigger than 29s on a 4cyl ... maybe 31s but thats just me .... im also one of the people who doesnt like the whole lifted 2wd big tires thing, but think its even dumber on a 4cyl thats pretty weak to begin with
