Hello Fellow Humans

What's up guys. I picked up a 1990 Ford Ranger from a friend of mine for 500 bucks yesterday. Has a lot of issues but I'm looking forward to the challenge. It does run, but the reverse gear is out, they welded the rear diff(locked it) and it's got a really bad case of the axle wrap. I plan on buying duff transaction bars to help with that. I do have one big question though. There is a guy selling a 1992 Ford Explorer with a manual tranny and 4.0 in it for 850. How hard would it be to drop the motor and tranny into my ranger??

Ranger specs
Motor: 2.3
Tranny: TBD
Rear Axle: 7.5

Welcome to the forum

Shouldn't be be to hard to do the swap

Explorer had the 4.0l OHV engine and M5OD-R1 transmission in 1992, and Ranger came with exactly the same setup in 1990 so should fit nicely

You need the 4.0l computer and engine wiring harness WITH the EDIS spark module(usually on the rad support)

The 4cyl Rangers have a cross brace in the engine bay for a motor mount, it needs to come out, V6 mounts frame rail to frame rail
