My wife and I are retired and we do a bit of camping. We upgraded to a 2007 Ranger with a small V6 last summer because both the '97 Mazda 2000 and 2009 Subaru Forester were a bit small for even our teardrop trailer. The "new" Ranger handles it very well.

The retirement boredom I hear people talk about has not occurred for us. I tinker with Power King tractors, do some wood working and home improvement; my wife is quite a photographer, and we've become involved with findagrave.com. There's always something to do.

I found this forum back in September when I was looking for information about replacing a front grille emblem. I copied the nice article I found, but I haven't done the job as yet because of the $50 to $60 prices being asked for the emblems. I'm looking at it again, and I found them priced at $33.50 "buy it now" on ebay. The part number is given as 5C3Z-8213-AA, the size is 9" X 3 5/8". Does anyone know whether this is the correct part?

I have other questions, but that one will do for now.

Welcome, I pull a pop-up camper too. Economy tractors are pretty neat. My grandfather had a 14 horse Power King I mowed with it alot for my gram after he passed. Im a John Deere guy though, theres a pic with a couple in my album. Hope you enjoy the site.

There seem to be quite a few Economys in PA, and it's to be the featured tractor at the Portersville, PA show this summer. I hope to get there with a 1618 equipped with a fairly rare rear PTO. It's about 700 miles from us, though, and gas prices could affect our decision, I'm afraid.

Some of the old Deeres are just about as solid as the Economys, and there are plenty of them around, especially in farm country. You're in good company.

I'm an old codger, and I've never learned the proper response to "what up." It always confuses me, even though I've heard it several times. I'll just go with the fact that it sounds friendly and thank you for it.

Ours isn't a step side. It's a two-door extended cab with a six foot bed. We added a cab-high fiberglass capper with racks on top. I intend to try to put a picture up when I get a chance.

I usually don't say that, but for what ever reason i did last night lol.

 

Do you take your Economys to any plow days? They have good ground clearance and plow pretty good. We plow every spring at a JD event in April its alot of fun. But we have Speedex, Cubs, Economys,and Wheel Horses a little of everything attending. We plowed about 25 acres last year and it gets bigger every year. Is your rear pto to run a tiller or collection system? My 430 has one to run a collection system I dont use it though.

I know what you mean about tractoring far distances.We went to Dyersville IA to the Little G show last year for the second time. Its 900 miles for us. I only took my 60 JD in the bed of the Ranger and could only manage 19mpg max.

The parts man at a nearby dealership said seven inch as well, but mine is definitely 9" X 3 5/8", edge to edge. Is there another way to measure? The Ford logo where the blue should be is more than eight inches.

The parts man asked for the vin number to be sure, but we were in the Subaru and it didn't occur to me that I had the insurance card in my pocket. I haven't been back.

I've never been to a plow day. I did plow with my 2418 for a few years, but the plow hasn't been out of the shed now for probably ten years. It does a nice job, but it's quite a chore to set it up.

I've not tried to put the 1618 in a truck bed, but the 2418 barely fits in a full sized pickup bed. I had a 1969 GMC 3/4 ton until sometime in the late eighties, but now I depend on a 5' X 8' tilt bed trailer.

 

Marvin...if your measurement is 9 + inches, ibwould tale to a Ford dealership in person ,and have him/her get their measurement and part number.cuz i thought it should b 7 inches ...Weird

I think you're right. The idea of saving fifteen to twenty-five dollars is tempting, but if the thing won't fit, I'd be out even more. The nearest Ford dealer is about forty miles away, but I need to get over there for other reasons now and then anyway. I'll take it in to have them look at it.

FWIW, there can be quite a difference in prices from one dealer to the next. When I bought the truck it had only one key. I checked with a dealer in Springfield, IL, and it would cost about $90 to make one. It was a Saturday and the shop was closed or I might have gone for it. I was in Macomb, IL the next week, and they did it for about $60. I suspect the difference is in the labor charge, but I don't know that for sure.

In case anyone is interested and still reading this thread, I got the front "blue oval" emblem from the nearest dealer last week. It's pn 4L3Z-1542528-AB. According to the receipt it lists for $62.54, and I was charged $52.12, plus tax.

Yea... Usually the 9 inch is an OPTION on F150 trucks, but I guess you got yours on your truck up-sized! LOL

 

LOL! Must be. I didn't pay any attention until I had this truck, but I see a lot of the 9-inchers around on both the black and chrome grilles. According to Swearingen's instructions for replacement, 9-inchers first became available in 2006, but I take it from what you say the smaller ones don't necessarilly identify an older model.
