a Dog Day Afternoon....
Hi guys, Rollo for short-
I spent the better part of this hot Ga. afternoon (they don't call um dog days for nuthin') searching for the elusive SPOUT connector on my '88 Ranger 2.3, so I could time the thing and get on with the diagnostics. Staring witless after another fruitless search, along with all the skint wrists and near-suicidal rantings, I got to thinking I'd simply MAKE MY OWN. SO I pulled off the six-wire plug at the distributor, cut the yellow / green striped wire and skinned the insulation back about 3/8 inch.
When I cranked the Ranger, -glory lives- it started and I set the timing to 10 degrees BTDC, twisted the yellow wire back together, and -the thing purred back at 20 degrees advanced (the way it should)
Seems no one could give any clues about where the connector was, so I rolled the dice and won this time. -Why did Ford do their best to hide the thing, anyway? (then again, maybe it was left off in production..a TGIFriday, or a twisted hungover Monday)
May all your afternoons be easier than mine!
