My fist truck 98 ranger

My fist truck 98 ranger
Well have always had autos and ALWAYS hauled quite a bit. Heck my 2008 optima will load a 2x4x10 and I can still close the trunk. I am in the process though of getting a 1998 ranger XLT 2 wheel drive and the vehicle looks in goog shape. Has some rust spots in the box bed so I probably will either try welding it or if I can find, a good replacement box. These are mabe 4-5 inch by 1 inch holes so I might not mess with it for awhile. Doesn't seem to leak any oil and there isn't ANY rust on the body at all. Paying 1500 for it but looks worth it. I am one of those freaks that when I buy a vehicle I always do the following.
1. change over to mobile 1 and filter
2. change plug wires and plugs
3. change pcv valve
4. check and replace any brake issues.
Most I can do myself but since I am probaly older than most on the forum and actually older than the dirt in my back yard I will be looking for tech advice as I get going on this vehicle.
Thanks all in advance.. yes I was in the Marine Corps

Welcome to the forum
1998 is a good year, first year of the 3rd and last generation of Rangers, 1998 to 2012
1983-1992 was 1st gen, 1989-1992, is sometimes called 1.5 gen because there were some body changes
1993-1997 was 2nd Gen
There were 3 engines offered in 1998, 2.5l 4cyl, 3.0l V6 Vulcan, 4.0l OHV V6
1998 saw a fuel system change.
1997 and earlier ran Return fuel system and 35psi fuel pressure
1998 and up were Returnless and ran 65psi fuel pressure
Rangers only ever had 2 beds
6ft used on Regular cabs and extended cabs, it came in regular or step-side
7ft only came on regular cab and rear axle was moved back 6", so not swappable for 6ft
A 1993 to 2012 6ft bed will fit your 1998
