Welcome to the forum

1988 Ranger with 2.0l Lima would be a rare model, most were 2.3l and fuel injected after 1985
1988 2.0l was the last year for Carbureted Rangers

It should have the M5OD-R1(M5R1) manual transmission, 1988 was the first year for these, and Rangers used them until 2011, so a good solid transmission
It uses ATF, yes automatic transmission fluid in a manual trans, do NOT use gear oil

M5R1 can be ID easily, it has no removable pan on the bottom, like earlier Ranger manuals
It also doesn't have a removable Bell housing so these transmissions are engine specific, so another M5R1 model can't be used unless its from same engine size, in your case a 2.0l or 2.3l Lima M5R1 trans will work, not that you will need one, lol
