New owner of a 1990 Ranger in TX

Just taking a second to say hello and express my excitement for such a great forum. I plan to picl all of your brains soon - working on the truck tomorrow night and depending on how that goes I will have some questions.

The history of my Ranger is that I bought it from a family member who was the original owner. Most of the maintenance of the truck was kept up and he drove a company truck for many of the years he owned the Ranger. Since I've had the truck, I've replaced both side mirrors as the originals were hanging down, I've replaced the entire fuel sending unit as the gas guage didn't work (common float issue but I figured since I'm in there anyway let's go ahead and replace it), and tonight I'm picking up the fuel tank filler neck to replace.

I knew I had an issue when I filled the tank with gas and gas leaked out onto the ground. I have learned that to get to the gas tank, you can just remove the bed (unhook the hose and the lights first) and voila! there you are, right at the tank without having to drop it. In case you were wondering, a T55 torx bit should fit the 6 bolts that hold the bed on.

Anyway, I'll post more as I figure more out - I've got an intermitten issue with my CEL that I believe is caused by the crack in the current fuel tank filler neck (actually the vent hose of the assembly). I believe this is keeping the gas tank from creating the normal pressure and causing the light to flicker from time to time. I choose to believe such because the light does not generate a code to be read.

If you read this and decide that I'm probably not pinpointing the right thing, please let me know. I'm looking for advice - I have a great mechanic that is inexpensive (my brother does my truck repairs for beer usually) and I help with all repairs because I'm that kinda girl.

Glad to be a part of this.
NJPatches (and no, I'm not from New Jersey) :newbie:
