new to ranger forum

Just bought a 2011 Sport Ranger and really appreciate the Ranger Forum. What a great idea !
Have restored many cars over the years even professionally. Been driving and restoring Volvo 240's for over 35 years. Last was an 82 bought from a wrecking yard at 17 yrs of age, rebuilt and driven for another 15 yrs more. Technology sure has changed... I'm likely going to need some help with all the new electrical stuff.
Question: I read the past thread on an OBDII scan tool, are they some good recommendations for ones to get and to stay away from for a newbie ?

Do you have an android phone? They make cables to connect to the OBDII port to read codes.

I have a SCT XCAL3, expensive for a code reader, but it's also my tuner
