New Guy
Hey Guys,
Glad to be in the forums. I'm hoping to get to know people here. I just bought a 1991 Ford Ranger. Its a project truck. I upgraded a toyota tacoma a few years ago into a trail rig and would like to do the same to the Ranger.
first of all Im impressed with the ford ranger.
Some information about the truck now.
Although it is a 1991 with 2ook miles it has held up well.
Doesn't burn oil or leak oil and runs strong.
It appears the water pump is new.
Interior is pretty good new rips or tears
The transmission is new.
Its 4x4 push button but Im afraid to try it out. I'll get it checked out before I use it and serviced.
It has 7 inches of lift with 31 x 10.50s so there is room to move up in tire size.

Thanks blurayX...
Just tackling the basic stuff the past week or so.
Heres what I did so far.
1. Engine oil flush and replaced + filter
2. Radiator fluid flushed and replaced
3. All fuses checked
4. front and rear diff fluids changes
5. transfer case fluid changed
6. replaced the driver side handle
7. All fluids checked
After changing the transfer case fluid I tried the 4x4 buttons and the light doesnt come on. I crawled under the truck and the shifter motor is wired up. I researched and apparently about 90% of the time it is the shifter motor. A bushing on a screw needs replaced or the entire motor so I plan to remove that this weekend and try to get the 4wd working.
Here is what Im doing in the future. This isnt my daily driver so I plan to do this over time and have fun with it. Any ideas are helpful.
Dash board sensors and misc.
Items that are not functioning:
Odometer
Fuel gage
Over heat gage
More DC power outlets
Engine Compartment:
Research power steering whining noise.
Is there an upgrade for the power steering?
Wheels:
New or used Wheels: that aren’t bent:
Recommended backspacing on a 15x8 wheel is 3.75 inches with -19mm offset.*
Wheels - Steel - 4 Wheel Parts Keep searching Craigslist
Pro Comp Steel Wheels Series 51, 15x8 with 5 on 4.5 Bolt Pattern - flat black
Wheel Size: 15x8
Bolt Pattern: 5 on 4.5
Backspace: 3.75
Tires: 35x12.50x15 MT $ USED 300 on Craiglist
Be ready to trim front fenders. Research best way to trim fender to prevent rub.
Research fender flares that might work after fender trimming.
Front Winch Bumper:
RLCWeldFab- Custom Winch Bumper for Ford Explorer, Ranger 1st gen.! ? RLCWELDFAB $475
Winch: 12000LB Badland winch 300$ or 8000lb Warn winch.
Rear Bumper:
See if RLCWeldfab will build one like bentup .com did for your Tacoma…I prefer the bentup style and shape.
2x6 – 63” long with shackles and a tow hitch and frame brackets. Rock crawler style.
Talking to Jon Pope at fearceOffroad .com and he agreed they would build a bumper for my year truck although they don’t usually have that design if I send measurements and style he said they would do it.
Lockers:
Front and rear lockers
Rear powertrax lockright locker OR the Aussie Locker XD-48831 400$
Front: ARB cost 1000$ - looking for a cheaper option- but don’t want to run a locker fulltime in the front.
Lights
LED Lights for from bumper
Roll Bar with LED Lights
Remove bed and sand blast frame and primer/paint
Interior
Remove all interior carpet and replace carpet with rubber / vinyl insert. Cover seats or replace seats with something more durable.
