PLEASE HELP ME DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM

i have a 94 ranger with a 2.3.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON MOST OF THE TIME BUT SOMETIMES IS NOT, THIS IS USUALLY DURING MODERATE TEMPS OUTSIDE.

HERE IS WHAT MY TRUCK DOES.

WINTER, SPRING, EARLY SUMMER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON , IDLES ROUGH, BUT ALWAYS STARTS AND DRIVES GREAT.

MID SUMMER, HEAT INTO THE 90'S THE TRUCK MAY START OR NOT, CRANKS AND HITS AND THEN DIES, THIS WILL CONTINUE UNTILL THE STARTER IS SMOKING IF YOU WANT TO KEEP TRYING.

I SOMETIMES CAN POP THE HOOD AND DISCONNECT THE PLUG TO THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND START THE TRUCK RIGHT UP, PLUG IT BACK IN AND DRIVE IT ANYWHERE, OTHER TIMES THIS WONT WORK EITHER AND I HAVE RESORTED TO A GAS SOAKED RAG OVER THE INTAKE --BETWEEN THE AIR BOX AND THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS WILL START THE TRUCK AND--SOMETIMES I CAN TAKE THE RAG AWAY AND IT WILL KEEP RUNNING.

MOST TIMES , WITH THE GAS RAG DEAL, I HAVE TO GET IT STARTED AND KEEP DRIPPING GAS ONTO THE RAG FOR 20 MINUITES AND THEN FINALLY I WILL TAKE THE RAG AWAY AND IT WILL KEEP RUNNING.

I AM TIRED OF THIS @#$%^&.

THE TRUCK IS IN PERFECT CONDITION, NEVER ABUSED, AND HAS 140,00 MILES THAT WERE ALL NICE AND EASY.

FUEL GAGE WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO AND VOLT GAGE READS LOW TO HIGH SOMETIMES FOR NO APPERET REASON.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like a possible fuel pump going, see if you can get the codes from the check engine light. when it doesnt start, hit the fuel tank with a hammer to see if it starts up.

IT IS VERY SIMPLE. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

A. PRESS YOUR "CAPS LOCK" BUTTON ON YOUR KEYBOARD

OR

B. BUY A NEW KEYBOARD WITH A FUNCTIONING CAPS LOCK

if you are referring to the all caps, the company i work for uses all caps in order to make things fast and not waste time with things that are not relavent to the message.

sorry about the "dramatic yelling with caps" go to a chat room and cry there, i just really need some help with my truck.

Dan,
I had the truck on a diagnostic machine and the person said that the codes in volved with the early years could not identify specefic problems, cost a hundred and fifty to hear this after the tow bill and then i went out and startedd the truck up and drove it home-lol.

sorry i insulted anyone with the all caps posting, that is just the way my company does it to save time and so the older people in the company--seriously--- can read the e-mails better.

When was the last time the timing belt was changed , and was it done correctly ?
If you can't answer that , then it is time for a new one.

First , buy a Haynes manual , good guide to have .
Follow it , and note what tools you'll need.

well thank you. i was worried that i had run into a "troll" den. i really need help and wisdom from people who have the same truck /problems i do.

i woould like to do a 4.0/ turbo swap in the future but that is just a fun thought while tring to get the 2.3 to start when it decides i dont have to go to work-lol!!

it / life is all good.

being very generous i would say that the timing belt has nothing to do with the problem. if there is really some "technical" breakthru that was made in 94 that involved timing belts and intermittent engine performance, please let me know.

i wuld be interested to read about tha tech.

We have our share of trolls , but they are usually weeded out in short order.

Plus , as on many sites, it's fun ripping on the new guys.

Just remember , that 'search' button at the top of the pane can be your friend .

i get it , yes i am probably in the wrong thread . i will search and find something closer to my problem.

by the way, tolerance, in some cases, is the best policy.
