Drive shaft

With the rear drive shaft out for the rear axle work, it was rebuilt with new sealed joints & the POR15 treatment. It hoses clean in seconds now.

Rear shocks

The last item on the list for the rear work was the shocks. I wanted to run the Rancho MT7000 but they do not make them with the proper ends to fit this rig in stock form. So.... Luckily for me, a fabricator buddy made me a set of Pin Bar eliminators that fit the EX. (All the ones made for Jeeps, do not fit.)

These worked nicely on all the trails in Moab.

Front Upper control arms

With the rear work done, it was time to start on the front. I had some tweaks to get done for Moab. The new wheels required a bit more lift to clear at full stuff. I contemplated on larger bump stops, but the travel is already minimal on these IFS setups. Decided to get the extra 1/2" lift using the coil over springs.

This threw the camber out of whack, and maxed out the adjustments. Still had negative camber to deal with. The stock UCA's are shorter then the lower's, and it is physically impossible to get good camber set, once you reach a certain height, using coil springs for lift.

The answer was longer UCA's made by BTF. These DOM tube Uniball arms are as strong as they get. I had them make mine 1/2" longer then they normally do. This allowed my upper 4* cams to rest in the middle for maximum adjustment both directions. Using a dead blow to get them installed was simple. The 1.25" Uniball is replaceable, and is grease-less. It has an inner Teflon seal.

They come in rattle can gun metal gray from BTF. I had to change that. Stripped with thinner, and POR15 was applied. I added a little bit of custom flare to the BTF logo, to make them pop more then they already did.

Rear storage

I wanted a better way to store parts & tools for the trails. I built a storage box, and wanted it removable.

Out came the stock tie downs, and in went a set of E-tracks. The box uses HD sliders for the drawer, for a smooth operation, and easy access.

Once the box was made, it was secured by a nice set of straps to the tracks.

The backside of the box holds both spare drive shafts using the large quick fist clamps. The top of the box holds the full size spare tire, using a loop bolt, and my custom wheel tie down kit I made.

I had to replace the subwoofer box, and install a new sub using a stock enclosure.

This mod worked great on the trails!

Wheels

I got tired of the wheels I was running, and found a newer set I liked. I had these wheels before on a different vehicle years ago, and really liked them. They are old school, but I am old. Perfect match!

Used balancing beads (Dynabeads) for the tires, for a smooth ride.

I installed the center caps I custom painted, and some black lugs (after Moab) to give some contrast. Simple, but effective.

Success!

Spent a week wheeling great trails and no breakdowns or stucks. I helped others with straps & this thing went over and thru everything flawlessly. I couldn't be happier with how well it did for an IFS rig, that kept up with the big dawg SAS rigs.

Can't wait to get back out there next year. More mods to come over this winter. Stay tuned!!!

If anybody wants to join me for a weekend of wheeling, I will be at SMORR the weekend of Oct 14-16-'16 for their annual Fall event. Top notch establishment, voted in the top 3 destinations in the country for ORV parks.
Check them out below.
