Si to Ranger

1 Attachment(s)
New member here. Went from an 06 Civic Si to an 09 Ranger FX4. I currently have a 95 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 I'm trying to sell and use that money for a house downpayment. I hated to get rid of the Si but if I am going to have one car, I don't want to be without a truck and 4 wheel drive.

Long and short about the truck is a guy bought the truck, took it home and wifey did not like it and made him trade it in for a subaru. I got the truck for 22,500 and think I got a pretty decent deal for a truck in great shape, a leer cap, and only 1800 miles.

One question so far, on the grille on my truck behind the horizontal openings where the ford emblem is it's empty. On either side of the grille there is that honeycomb material. Is it just me or does it look alot emptier without the honeycomb grille material in the center where the ford emblem is?

truck looks good, i would ditch that cap though.. Get one that is fully even with the cab..

Congrats on the purchase:biggthump Picked a nice ranger to step into. personally Id drive to the closest landfill and leave the camper shell there. Look into the prekey mod. It will give you the extra lift to match earlier model Edge's

I currently have an 06 fx4, and I used to have an 06 SI

I miss the mileage and sound (injen intake) of my si...but thats about it

as far as the cap goes i'm considering getting one that's only cab high and not flared like the one in the pic

what's the pre key mod you guys are talkin about, not really looking to lift the ranger

i had alot of suspension work done on the si, hfp suspension, front and rear sways, rear tie bar, adjustable endlinks, hankook v12's, etc. it was like a go cart on crack

Truck looks good and you got a pretty darn good deal on it. Even with rebates, a new one wouldnt be able to be had for that price. Im sure that top wasnt cheap either (i dont like it but im sure its super useful)

Looks good! Prekey it, get the alignment eccentrics and be happy!

EDIT - Prekeys are using the 06 and older torsion bar keys for the truck. In your case (and my case too) what it will do is lift the front of the truck about an inch to an inch and a half. It will level it out pretty close to the back if you leave the rear alone. Its purely aesthetics in my case. The newer trucks are pretty nose down stock and that bothered me. Others say its not necessary, but i would strongly get the alignment cams too while you are at it. It doesnt change the alignment much with the prekeys, but its a new truck so why even live with it even close to out of spec? The cams are cheap enough and they will make sure everything is right.

also...do you have any pics of your si?

Great looking truck!

Forgot to mention, do the pre-key mod and get some shackles for the rear then slap on some 33's!!!

Howdy & welcome. Truck looks good. I'm gonna go against the grain and say keep the cap or get one like mine. I do suggest getting different tires though, those suck big time.

I agree with the cap, I'm looking into a local place in S. Central PA that has a used inventory or would possibly give me cash in a trade for a new one. I want one that is cab high and not flared like the one that came on the truck.

As for the tires, I know all about them.
They came as the stock tires on my 1995 Tacoma. They wore really well, previous owner got about 47,000 miles out of them. I see you've got the B.F. AT's. That's whats on the Tacoma now. Love 'em. B.F.G. has a customer for life. They will be going on the truck when the Sh*tyear RT/s' wear out. Here is a pic of the previous Si. The more I look at it the more I want to hit 8K rpm's and get my vtec on. But no such luck with the Ranger.

Welcome. Yes, the grill looks so empty there. What you can do is something called the "grill mod". Basically you paint some gutter guard black and then zip tie it to the back of the grill. Works wonders and it is very cheap. maybe $5

Sorry to use a link from another site, but I couldn't find ours.

Welcome...
Fill that space with some 130 watt lights wired to your high beams!

After looking at the SI im gonna say that you made the right decision. That red coupe is such a girl car.

Girl car eh? why is that?. Ever drive one?
Judging from your response and screen name I take it you never drove one.
That car had quickness, handling and gas mileage. If there is something else I'm missing in an affordable FWD car that has a track record that speaks for itself clue me in.

one snow storm and you will want to swap out those RT/S's.... :headache:

Nice looking truck.

BFG's and a shorter topper (as already discussed) and drive the wheels off it.

My previous vehicle was a 1st gen Neon with a couple Suspension parts from an ACR neon. fun little go cart as well. :biggthump
