Used Ford Rangers

I'm new on here. I found the forum when I was looking to find out what someone thought an average 1987 Ranger would be worth. I know it's red, stick shift, has a bench seat, looks nice. The guy who owns it says he just has to put a ball joint in one of the front wheels. He's asking $800 for it. I told him I would be back in two days. What does
everyone think?

My thought is people tend to lie or just plain not know what is wrong with the vehicles they are trying to sell.

My guess is a 1987 Ford Ranger will need more than just one ball joint to make it road worthy.

However if you are mechanically inclinded or know a mechanic check it out and know what your buying before forking over the cash.

800 dollars for a truck any truck seems like a good enough of a deal yet it could cost you thousands to make it road worthy if you buy someones problem and not know about it.

Case in point on the surface my truck looked ok for a 2002 at the time I basically paid 4k for it 2 and a half years later and just about 5 K spent on parts later I still have not been able to drive my truck and I may end up needing a replacement engine.

I will admit a lot of the parts I replaced could have been saved or rebuilt for much less
but it doesn't change the fact if i was to try and sell my truck today I doubt I could get 3K out of it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Welcome to the forum

Yes, and running pickup truck would be worth $500+ pretty much any where, so if it is in reasonable shape then $800 would be a fair price.

But as EaOutlaw says, a 30 year old vehicle will always need something

Love Red Rangers, worth an extra $100 to me any day :)
